Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Fabián Rivera.
Hi Angel Fabián, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a Latino born and raised in Puerto Rico. I knew I always wanted to do acting of some kind but at first, I didn’t know what to do, so I went to get a BA in Drama, which opened a world full of possibilities for me. Was part of the Choir, traveling theater, lyric theatre and so on. While I was in college, I started working professionally outside and started making a name for myself. Started experiencing different paths of theatre and more, met the wonderful world of Musical Theater, Classic Theatre, Kids Theatre, etc. Finally got a big opportunity to be in my first Feature Film, a production from Hollywood shot in Puerto Rico and there I realized that’s what I wanna do for the rest of my life. After that big opportunity, which I still can’t talk a lot about it, did a US tour for Jurassic Quest and finally moved to ATL. And here I am, just like others trying to make it in this new city of stars.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy for me, especially in this artistic path. Some people were always negative towards what I wanted to do, I’ve had everything, from encouraging people by my side to people who just told me that this was not my things but I always persevered and here I am. My family didn’t understand this at first but now they do get why I do what I do. And finally, being away from home can be a huge struggle, especially when you’re in the States and being English your second language, definitely had some struggles trying to fit in with everyone and most of all, how to get the same treat as everyone, it’s been something that I’ve worked on the past few months. But hey, there’s no easy path, right? I got to continue fighting for what I want because what easy comes, easy goes.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do everything related to the artistic world. I started doing theater, musicals, and then from there I have tried different paths inside the business, like producing tv shows, editing, and finally starring in films. Right now, I think what sets me apart is not only being Latino in the US but having the fire to continue and go on no matter the circumstances because like any other job, this is something that requires the motivation and willingness to go on.
What does success mean to you?
I think we’re most successful when we fail, when we learn from our errors, get up and continue our path. Those are the moments that you tell yourself: Hey, you still can do it, this is nothing.
