Conversations with Anoop Surya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anoop Surya.

Anoop, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m an actor/producer based in Atlanta, GA. My story begins back in India where I spent 18 years of my life. After my high school, I came to the US to pursue Theatre and learned everything I know about acting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. After graduating, I moved to Atlanta and signed with STW Talent Agency and started booking acting jobs. I have worked on several local and national commercials for Chase, Starbucks, IHG Hotels, Greenchef, etc and co-starred on TV shows like Cobra Kai, Atlanta, Interview with the Vampire, currently streaming on Netflix, Hulu and AMC+. It has been a tough yet fulfilling journey and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I take pride in calling myself an actor and love the look on people’s faces when I answer the question, “What do you do for a living?”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been a lot of hurdles along the way. As fulfilling as an actor’s life is, it is also one of the toughest careers to stay consistently employed in. There is constant rejections, self-doubt, lack of motivation, lack of clarity on a day-to-day basis but I tackle them all with a never-depleting drive to achieve greatness and a relentless entrepreneurial spirit.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an actor. These days, I’m more involved in performing on TV shows. I’m known for my co-starring roles in Cobra Kai as Phil, in Atlanta as the Lead middle eastern singer and in Interview with the Vampire as Head Dubai Butler. I have also been part of several commercials that have release locally and nationally. My acting process being rooted in my Indian background and spirituality sets me apart from others. My natural and grounded approach to performance leads itself to the realism on screen while my theatre, dancing and stage combat backgrounds help me give more exaggerated performances.
