Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Sisson.
Hi Anthony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started showing interest in photography and filmmaking in high school, but I never really knew what I wanted to do. I started off doing photos of people and taking up the role of S-5 in JROTC by taking photos of the JROTC program at Miller Grove High School; once I graduated, I attend Georgia State University there I picked up a job at Zaxbys to be able to purchase my first camera instead using the one my brother gave me to practice on. But my story really started when I attend Caffeine and Octane, this monthly car show that happens the first Sunday of every month.
With my newly purchased Sony A7iii camera, I began taking pictures of some of the most amazing cars that you can ever see in Atlanta; from old, new, imports, exotics, anything you can think of, they had it. After that day, I decided Automotive Photography was my calling; after a few months of practicing, I started taking up clients, charging them $20 dollars for 15 photos; I wasn’t really doing it for the money, just for the passion of it. But once’s my name go out there, clients started to offer to pay more for my work even giving extra when it wasn’t needed. Just recently, I did a photoshoot of this Father and Son who worked on cars together; they build 2 Nissan 350z; when I took the first photo, I thought to myself that I never thought I would be at this level that I am after doing Automotive Photography for two years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. When I was working at Zaxby’s, I always did double shifts to afford the camera that I’m currently shooting with. On top of that majority of my career in this field, I haven’t been getting many clients due to the pandemic. I heard a lot of no’s, even clients canceling on me at the last minute; most of the time, I do free photoshoots so I can keep up and develop my skills. But I can honestly say 2021 been treating me well with my career.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do automotive photography and filmmaking, I mostly specialize in Photography but I recently picked up cinematography because I wanted to take my content to the next level. I’m mostly proud of the work that I do; taking pictures of cars and telling the story by capturing the work that the owner had put in it speaks volumes. I think what sets me apart from others is my workflow I always take time on each project, not because I’m lazy or anything but I believe that the person who booked with me should receive high-quality content instead of rushed content.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see myself working for a lot of top automotive manufacturers producing quality content for them, especially for Porshe, BMW, Toyota, koenigsegg.
