Today we’d like to introduce you to Ash Frost
Hi Ash, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always loved taking pictures and making videos with my friends when I was a kid, and I took every class I could to learn how to work cameras and edit, but I never thought I could do it for a living. I was in college studying psychology during the pandemic when I realized I would never be happy with the future I was moving toward. I left school and started working for different photo and video companies, getting experience in the field at photoshoots and weddings, until I was officially able to start my own business in 2023. I have never been happier!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly was not perfect right away. A lot of the work I do is with families and minors, but I do not post any images of minors for the privacy and safety of my clients. This has made it difficult to advertise the family work I do, but my clients know they have control over their child’s images and that is certainly worth it.
In the last year, I’ve developed a better sense of what makes my services unique. People often compliment me on the pictures or video before they’ve even seen them from just having a good experience in front of the camera. Keeping a comfortable and candid environment is one of the most important parts of not only capturing the best facial expressions, but to ensure the experience is a positive one that leaves the client feeling confident.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in portraiture and events/weddings. I work closely with my clients to tailor their images or video to their particular needs. I develop lasting connections with my clients by ensuring a comfortable experience in front of the camera while we work to capture their personality. Every single person is beautiful! I aim to capture what we can’t see in the mirror- what our loved ones see every day: the way someone laughs or the light in their eyes when they talk about something they love.
I’m most proud of emotional impact it has when I’ve captured an authentic slice of someone. It holds a moment in time forever!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The pandemic really taught me how important it is to spend my time doing what feels right. I would be absolutely miserable in the life I thought I wanted for myself, until I had to sit with it in lockdown, fully facing that reality with no other distractions. Now I get to do what I love every day.
