Conversations with Ashley Greene

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Greene.

Hi Ashley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised on the West Side of Chicago; the home to so many creative geniuses known and unknown. I grew up with a large family of predominantly men. My mom was the only girl of 3 brothers, and coincidentally so was I. Before I knew I had a gift, my uncles would always encourage me to sing and reenact scenes we would see on TV.

Eventually that lead me to perform in school talent shows; singing, performing poetry and also modeling. From there, the idea to become an actress came effortlessly. In 2009, my photographer suggested a class that jump-started my interest. I went on to take multiple courses and completed all levels at Second City Chicago. My dream seemed pretty promising until my life took an unexpected turn. During my senior year of high school, I found out that I was pregnant with my beautiful baby girl. Not only did this put a hold on my dreams, but it also divided my mother and I: who was the backbone of my career. Her only daughter was becoming a mom. During these bittersweet times in my life, I’m grateful that it helped build character and strength that I didn’t even know I had in me. It also formed an even stronger bond between my mother and I. I was still hopeful about my dreams but very afraid. I eventually decided to take a leap of faith and move to Georgia with my daughter to take my career to the next level. I am now a full-time mother, model, actress, and content creator. This is still only the beginning.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely hasn’t been easy. Being a young single mother is a constant challenge that nobody can truly prepare you for. Add trying to break through into the entertainment industry, and your goals start looking impossible. I’ve dealt with depression, rejection from agencies, having no money in my account, and no place to call my home. In no way has it been an easy journey. The biggest thing that held me together was my belief in myself and my reason to keep going: my daughter. Nobody can take that away from me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A lot of people know me for modeling. It really led my career. I love collaborating with photographers, make up artists, and hairstylists to create an original concept or even recreate something that inspired us. The same goes with collaborating with people in film. I love studying a new character and bringing it to life- even directing. The team effort that goes into every project makes the result that much more rewarding to see. When I go home and create content by myself, I try to apply everything I’ve learned from my peers. I really do see myself in all roles. I think I have a great vision and that helps me succeed creatively and in other areas in my life. I’m always trying to learn new ways to elevate my craft, and with that mindset I truly believe there is nothing I can’t do. The will to always be a student makes me most proud.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
