Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Hammock
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been a multifaceted one, marked by passion, resilience, and continuous learning. I began modeling off and on for the last 14 years, starting as the friend who always took pictures every two weeks in high school. This enthusiasm for photography and modeling led me to work with an Entertainment and Management company, which eventually brought me to Couture Press in Sacramento. Today, I am proud to be a signed plus-size model.
In February 2014, I founded my nonprofit organization, World of Powerful Youth (WOPY), inspired by my teaching experiences and the realization that many enriching activities from my childhood were missing in contemporary education. This led to the creation of programs such as the WOPY Kidpreneur Academy, Peer Mentoring, and our Jr. Master Gardener Program. During the pandemic, we also launched a Singing and Songwriting program focused on mental health, leveraging my own skills as a singer and songwriter.
In 2022, I became heavily involved with tours and scheduling interviews for podcasts. It was during this time that I met Nick Lavelle, a multi-talented artist who has taught me a great deal. Now, I work with him and his company, Truu Colors Entertainment. We recently hosted a significant event, the Truu Colors Music and Taste Festival, at Underground Atlanta in August 2024.
My extensive networking in the industry has finally begun to pay off, taking my career to new heights I never imagined, with Nick Lavelle being a key part of this journey. Additionally, I am excited to announce the upcoming launch of Ashley Marie Eyewear, a new venture that reflects my passion for fashion and entrepreneurship. Make sure to check out our upcoming events and stay tuned for more exciting developments!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. The journey has been filled with numerous challenges and learning experiences. Over the years, I have encountered various obstacles, including being taken advantage of in multiple ways. For instance, there were instances where my trust was misplaced, leading to financial setbacks and strained professional relationships. Additionally, navigating the complexities of managing a nonprofit organization, balancing multiple careers, and ensuring the well-being of my family has been demanding.
However, these experiences have been invaluable in shaping who I am today. They have taught me resilience and the importance of self-reliance. When faced with challenges, I took it upon myself to learn and adapt. Whether it was mastering new skills for my nonprofit, understanding the intricacies of property management, or honing my public relations expertise, I dedicated myself to continuous learning and research. These experiences have not only equipped me with a diverse skill set but also reinforced my commitment to authenticity and genuine connections in all my endeavors.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a mother of two and a multifaceted entrepreneur with a diverse range of roles and expertise. As the founder of the nonprofit organization, World of Powerful Youth (WOPY), I am dedicated to empowering young people through various programs. My background in public relations, combined with my experience as a singer and songwriter, has enabled me to plan and execute impactful events that resonate with the community.
I specialize in nonprofit management, public relations, event planning, and creative arts. Additionally, I am a children’s book author, with my first book titled Damareé Learns Self Care, featuring illustrations by LaKendra Huckaby (Art by Huck), a super talented artist based in Georgia.
I take great pride in the positive impact my nonprofit has had on the community and my ability to overcome various challenges. What sets me apart from others is my adaptability and commitment to continuous learning. Whether it’s acquiring new skills for my nonprofit, navigating the complexities of property management, or refining my public relations strategies, I strive for growth and authenticity in all my endeavors.
My ability to juggle multiple roles while maintaining a focus on community impact and personal growth is what truly distinguishes me. I am passionate about making a difference and continuously evolving to meet the needs of those I serve.
