Conversations with Ashley Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Smith.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Originally I started out as a model in my home town Chicago Illinois as a model. So when I moved to Georgia I still wanted to in the industry but I wanted to be more behind the scenes. My good friend Rodney asked me to be a model for a shoot and I told him I’d do makeup instead. After then I begin watching many tutorials and I begin to grow a love for makeup the more better I became. I love making especially us women feel better about themselves and you also get to see yourself in a different way. As of today, I’ve been known as @facedbytink and creating looks for four years!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! Lol, it takes a lot of practice and studying in the beginning to make a face come together. You deal with so many people who may not even like your work, learning how to charge your clients, and also having my business in order so no one can disrespect me or my business. The struggles for me were really learning my brushes and understanding that my client is my canvas and my brushes do different things. Knowing my worth as an artist was a challenge was definitely my biggest challenge yet! But I definitely know now!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Travel MUA (Makeup Artist) and creator. I am known for doing creative makeup looks, weddings, Photoshoots, Music Videos, birthdays, etc. I am most proud at the fact that I self-taught myself and kept networking to get my name out in Atlanta. Just being myself has gotten me around some great clients, great friends and amazing opportunities! As a Mua, what sets me apart from other MUAs are the fact that people can be so about business that it can come off rude to the clients. What I mean by that is the fact that people so about money they disregard the customer’s needs and have a lack of personal relationships with their customers. I try to make every experience great by not getting too ahead of myself that I don’t show appreciation! Also, after every look it’s a Photoshoot with me, lol. My clients are everything to me because without them, I wouldn’t know what I’d do!

What makes you happy?
Creating dramatic and doing tutorials looks makes me happy! It’s a way you can show the beginning stages and you get to watch the transformation as the look comes together. I love learning different ways to introduce my tutorials and reels just so I can possibly go viral one day.
