Conversations with Ashley Stewart

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Stewart.

Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Ashley Stewart, but I go by “Ashley The Writer.” Hints the name, I am a Singer/Songwriter!

Like most musicians and artist, my story and background start in the church. From the church to performing arts school. And from performing arts school to the studio. In between those it was just being around music pretty much my whole life that  jump started to what I now call my passion. Although  a songwriter now, I started off wanting to just be an artist. As a child I wanted to be on tv, in the music videos like Beyoncé. And I kept that dream for a while, until after I graduated high school in 2016. That’s when I discovered that I actually liked writing songs.

Fast forward to 2018 when I started taking things serious, I got in the studio and recorded my first record “Deep Confessions” and fell in love with the studio and everything about the recording process. I think hearing my ideas and songs  come to life in the studio really made me love it even more. That day was also the day the name “Ashley The Writer” was born. The engineer at the time actually gave me that name after i told him “ my name is Ashley and I just write!” I liked it’s simplicity so I stuck with it.

Soon after I started putting myself out there as a writer and landed my first placement with Beau Joli with writing her single called “Dance with Me” and two other songs (“Can’t Let Go& If It’s Too Late)  on her  EP  “Beautiful Soul.”

After working with Beau I wanted to put myself out there more and gain more exposure. So, in 2020 I dropped another single called “Deep Inside” and that got me to a few more doors and working with a few more local artist. Along the way I teamed up with a rap group called LBL (Linked By Loyalty) as the female vocal of the group. I went on to write and perform with them in local venues in Atlanta until I decided I strictly just wanted to write.

Fast forward to fall of  2021 I signed to MVE (Media Vybe Entertainment) as an independent songwriter and now being exposed to other labels such as Sony, writing for  placements with various artists as well as current tv shows and upcoming movies.

I also attend Atlanta Institute of Music as a vocal major. I decided to go back to school to learn more about my craft and sharpen my skills as well as pick up some new ones. A wise man once told me that “Knowledge is power but it’s also the “new money” so you might want to go get you some!”

Although, I’ve told you my story thus far… I’d say it’s really just the beginning of who I am about to become in the near future.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The music industry in my opinion is everything but smooth when you’re still trying to pretty much establish yourself and your role in it.  I will say being a songwriter is a lot more smooth than being an artist. But even as a songwriter who is trying to break through in this industry it still has its obstacles. I think my biggest challenges have been mental focus and balance. Success is not for the weak and it’s something you really need to have your head on straight for. It takes a lot of strength to get through and make it out here and it most definitely takes time, lots and lots of time, dedication and hard work. That in itself is a challenge to keep up with and discipline yourself for. But God never gives us anything we can’t handle and knowing that keeps me going in my challenging times.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I do is simple. I am a singer/songwriter Genres: R&B, Pop, Soul/Neosoul, Gospel and Country. I write songs and give them to your favorite artist to sing or your favorite tv shows and or movies to play in the background of a scene. I simply just create music that I think the world would want to hear! Writing music is my way of connecting to the world! Reaching and relating to each and every person out there. Though most times when you hear my work, it won’t be through my voice I still like to think of it as connecting with the audience reached. I have a lot of work coming out soon! And I can’t wait for the world to hear it.

What sets me apart from a lot of other writers and artists is simply my creative mind, my skills, and my hunger to learn. As well as my originality. It has made me stand out thus far and has gotten me to where I am. I have no doubt that it will take me where I’m trying to go. God willing.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My childhood was not the best but my favorite memory (being completely unrelated to music) is when I was in elementary school and my older brother was in high school and he was going to prom… I wanted to go with him soooooo bad I absolutely adored my big brother and it broke my heart to know I couldn’t go with him. So to make me feel better, my brother and mom got me dressed up as if I was gonna go to the prom… makeup hair done… the whole nine. I was probably the happiest kid on the world that moment. I carry that memory with me till this day and it still brings me just as much joy the think about as it did when I was a little girl.
