Today we’d like to introduce you to Breathless aka Honey B. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Breathless aka Honey B is all Hip Hop, No Substitutions. An Emcee and a touring Artist, Breathless has visited stages all across the nation and internationally, hailing from the midwest and is currently bi-coastal in Oakland and Atlanta. Lyrical & Passionate. A professional with over 15 years under her belt, Honey B has earned recognition for her solid work ethic, creative energy and mesmerizing voice.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a woman in a male-dominated genre, I push to create avenues, spaces and platforms for women of all styles and forms of Hip Hop to feel seen and created in a mode of freedom.
As a newcomer to Atlanta, it takes time and networking to connect with folks and nurture relationships with venue owners and promoters for bookings. I’ve just gotten a band together, and we’re working on sets to promote.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Breathless received an Omaha Entertainment Award for Best Hip Hop/Rap artist, performed on The Warped Tour circuit, Outside Lands, Oakland Art & Soul Main Stage, San Francisco Pride Main Stage, Oakland Pride (Womyns & Main Stage), successfully rocked over 175 shows a year and charted on radio stations internationally. While currently working on a new album, she also does ghostwriting, and voice-overs on-air talent for the cartoon character, Carrie, in the animated YouTube hit, Ghost Bus Kids.
Breathless co-founded the Oakland, CA-based all-female art collective Venus Rising Collective. She now tours and performs with DJ Lex of Souls of Mischief or DJ Ladyfingaz of Femme Deadly Venoms, as well as performing with Jazz Mafia’s Heaviest Feather (a 10 piece brass led band), recently voted in East Bay Express as East Bay’s “Best Band 2019.” Breathless most recently joined forces with all-female powerhouse group, FemmeDeadlyVenoms based out of Oakland, CA, whose album Femmenomenon charted as most added Hip hop album in NACC. The title track video is over 50k views and the group is slated to continue the trend and is consistently on the top 5 of the charts…
Breathless and another performer, Lil MC were granted the Local Siren Award by Women’s Audio Mission in San Francisco, CA for studio time, mixing and mastering with a live performance to record their upcoming collaboration project. Breathless is also a performer within the International Sofar Sounds community and has a viral song snippet on TikTok at 1.4Mil in the US alone. The new Breathless album is in pre-production and slated for release third quarter of 2023.
Breathless is performing at various venues in Atlanta and Oakland and with a live band (bassist Shana and drummer Isaiah) in Atlanta and given access for recording at Georgia State University’s School of Music. She most recently was a grant awardee for the Invest Atlanta Creative Industries Fund.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
My first language was Japanese. I was born in Tachikawa, Japan…I only remember a few phrases now.
