Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Mobley.
Hi Brian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I used to co-own and operate a music label (B.O.S.S. LLC) with my partner Shawn Maxwell. We always had cameras around due to the fact that everything was in-house. When the label dissolved, we kept the cameras rolling. Shawn navigated toward the video side of things and I landed on the photography side of it all. I started out second shooting at weddings. From there, I discovered an overall love for photography. During the course of a wedding day, you’re seeing everything from portraits, to product shoots, to event photography and more. I found myself leaning more toward the bride and groom portraits and the couple portraits that took place during the course of the day. Those were my favorite shots to get. That’s what started me on the journey of a portrait photographer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If you can name me one smooth road in life then you win the grand prize of whatever your heart desires lol. The biggest struggle is thinking just because you’re “good” you will be successful. You know how they say being fit is 80% diet and 20% exercise, well the photography world or the world of a creative is just like that. It is 80% business and 20% creativity. Well, give or take a few points in the creativity department, but you get the gist of what’s being said. Being a creative is never enough if you don’t have the proper business mind to go along with it. This is something I had to learn and I’m still learning today. It’s one of those never-ending processes people talk about.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer that specializes in capturing the moments in life the way in which I see the world. I’m not sure what I’m known for as of yet. I guess it depends on who you ask and when you ask them. I’m still making my way through life and would hope to be known for making a positive impact to the people around me and everyone I come across. It’s hard to say what sets me apart from others when we (people) are all the same. The one thing that sets any and everyone apart is just “You being You.” There’s no one quite like you. So I just focus on being me!
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
1. Don’t panic! Life is constantly throwing wrenches at you or somewhere in your way. In the words of Patches O’Houlihan from the movie dodgeball, “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.” Every throw won’t be a wrench, but if you learn to dodge or handle those big moments, the little ones won’t seem so bad.
2. Get the facts! Whatever you decide to do in life, do your own research. Whether it’s starting a business, something someone told you about or a great idea someone brought to you. Do your own research first, then decide.
3. Give it time! Nothing lasts forever.
