Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Williams.
Hi Brooke, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Oyster Bay, New York. I am most grateful for having such a supportive family. Life hasn’t always been easy but I wouldn’t be where I am today without them and the added family I have built throughout life. In 2012, I decided to move to Atlanta and attend Spelman College. This was one of the best decisions that I made for myself. From the AUC to The Gathering Spot and team members at work. I am fortunate to have found a community full of authentic and inspirational individuals. Atlanta quickly became my home and has been a wonderful place to build my life. In the summer/spring of 2014, I worked on political campaigns in New York as a volunteer and field organizer. While it was an extremely educational experience, I soon realized politics was not the career choice for me and I didn’t miss the busy city enough to move back. After returning to school, I began working as a host in the hospitality industry. Soon after, I became an Events Coordinator, and this led me into Sales, Marketing, and Events Management. Most of my family has an extreme love for travel, hospitality, and food. This field of work was fun and was filled with unique opportunities. For six years, I planned social and corporate events for multiple venues and helped them increase their brand awareness. After the pandemic, I lost my job like so many others and it was hard to figure out what was next for me.
I felt lost and had no idea what I wanted to do. With so much time on my hands, I began to reflect on my blessings and the things I had the power to change. I started to revisit my sustainability business I began in college called TADA. At that time, my mom’s jewelry design business began to suffer because of not being able to attend in-person trade shows and events. While working on building the brand identity, marketing strategy, and website design for both businesses, I discovered what I enjoyed most. I used to paint and when I was younger gave up this passion. This re-ignited creative energy greatly inspired me to the ability to help business owners struggling to grow. This led me to launch a collaborative of creatives under the name BMW Creative Consulting. As devastating as the pandemic has been, I am grateful for the privilege to have been able to focus on my wellbeing, meet other creatives, and grow my business.
During the past eight years, I also launched a business called The Green Goddess Bakery. An organization that bakes edibles teaches people how to cook with cannabis, educates our community, and hosts events. While I am no longer able to bake, this business is dear to my heart. Our mission has been to change the stigma around cannabis consumption, connect our community and help those in need to find access to its many benefits such a pain management .
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve spent my life turning what I thought was my greatest weakness into my biggest strengths. I am dyslexic and I have spent most of my life focusing on my flaws and not trusting myself. Struggling to communicate verbally, read, and write doesn’t increase one’s confidence. While personal growth can be an attribute, it can also lead you down a dark path. Early on, I adopted a critical mindset and truly became my own worst enemy. We judge ourselves or add pressure which can push us to the brink of exhaustion and for what? There was a deep sense of negativity that was fueled by a handful of negative people in my life. These individuals fueled a sense of self-hatred and an unhealthy perspective on life. This worsened my mental health and led to being diagnosed with depression and anxiety at the age of sixteen. I’ve spent too much of my life overwhelmed by my mental health. Fortunately, that same day I decided to commit to living in Atlanta, I realized my power to take care of myself, build an authentic life, and move away from those with malicious intent.
In addition to therapy, I overcome these struggles with the support of my community. Being able to learn from other perspectives and from those who are in similar situations helps me rise above these struggles. During my senior year, I met Whitney A. White an empowering entrepreneur and career coach. Whitney and her team have been a huge support to me with maximizing my time and maintaining balance in my professional and personal priorities. Another source of inspiration is music. Lately, A Rose in Harlem by Teyonna Taylor has been uplifting to my state of mind.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For the past eight years, I’ve supported businesses with strategic marketing to increase their sales. In 2020, I launched BMW Creative Consulting to help businesses in need of brand, marketing, and website design. We service small business owners with a sense of urgency ready to invest in their business. Our mission is to help clients make a strong online impression and support their brands in standing out. We are committed to delivering creative, consistent, and convenient websites and designs. This allows them to focus on their priorities and proudly showcase their work.
I am fortunate to have two teams that continue to inspire me each day. I recently had the opportunity of joining Argus Logistics as a Marketing and Office Manager. Supporting this innovative company has further fueled my love for continued growth. It is not every day that you find an organization that invests in its team and is committed to the well-being of its clients. Business and personal development are my greatest passion and have brought me to where I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I will start with what has always made me happy, animals! Animals tend to be caring, good-natured, and forgiving of mistakes, they love you unconditionally and they do not deceive. Pets and wildlife have always brought me joy. My house is surrounded by nature which brings me comfort. Being able to watch deer run through my backyard every day is such a treat. My fiancé Kevin has also made me very happy for the past five years. I look forward to many more! I also love to travel. It makes me happy to explore, experience different cultures, meet new people, as well as eating amazing food. My work is another source of joy. Having such an inspirational community around me makes me extremely proud. For a while, I truly believed that just helping other people made me happy, now do not get me wrong I love helping people, but being true to myself makes me happy too. I love the ability to do nothing with those I love and disconnect every few weeks. Taking back my time, my energy, and my life makes me happy. Making time for yourself is extremely important. Whether it’s your health or any personal enjoyment, you can’t show up for others in life if you’re not taking care of yourself.
P.S. make time to rest, enjoy your loved ones, and pursue your dreams.
