Conversations with Carly Adam

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Adam.

Hi Carly, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We had the idea of a men’s boutique for a while before it actually came to fruition. We sat on the idea for a couple of years before we decided to turn it into a reality because we had bigger dreams that needed our attention at that moment. I had been undergoing treatments for Stage IV Endometriosis, a painful disease with four stages that affects 1 in 10 females. This disease also affects fertility and my husband and I began undergoing fertility treatments. I had numerous surgeries and procedures, took a long list of medications and shots, and attempted IVF or Invetrofertalization. During the IVF process, the disease became extremely aggressive which resulted in me having an emergency hysterectomy in my 30s. This ended our ability to have children. Not willing to let adversity top us we quickly began the process to adopt.

We eventually found the perfect birth mother and the perfect daughter to complete our family which included my husband’s two boys! We flew across the country to get her when she was born and she has been in our arms since she was just a few hours old. Once that rollercoaster ride slowed down, all of the stars aligned and we decided to take a leap and open Finn’s on Main. The “Finn” in the name comes from our daughter’s middle name, Finley. What we thought was perfect timing, COVID had other plans. Our original projected opening was March 2020 but we delayed the opening until July 2020. Just recently we have had the opportunity to expand to a larger location and add more products. While we still focus on men’s products and creating our own brand, we have added women’s clothing and gift items. We are excited to see where the expansion and rebranding is going to take us! July 1st we opened up as Finn’s Toggery in a larger location on the square.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. From the get-go, we battled the changing world of COVID. Not only was our opening delayed, but we had the normal small business challenges on top of the ever-changing COVID restrictions, shipping delays, product shortages, and the rising cost of goods. We learned from day one the importance of flexibility.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
On top of being a mom of three and being the event coordinator for a state agency, I own and manage Finn’s Toggery. I have a wonderful staff that helps me with the day-to-day operations when I am not able to be there. Finn’s is known for bringing quality products and a personalized customer service experience that cannot be found anywhere else. From picking out the perfect polo to picking out the perfect gift, to fitting you for the perfect tux, we strive to treat you like family.

We have diligently worked to curate our own brand and label of clothing. Finding a manufacturer that could articulate our vision was a challenge but now we have an amazing manufacturer that supplies us with a quality of clothing that we are proud to brand and put our name on. Recently we dove into corporate Finn’s polos. We take our performance polos and brand them with your company logo and information.

Another thing that Finn’s Toggery has that nobody else around us has is a mobile cigar bar! We sell quality cigars in our store so we thought, why not take it mobile. We bring our cute cigar trailer to your wedding, house party, corporate event and staff it with knowledgeable individuals that will cut and light cigars for you and your guests!

How do you think about happiness?
Chickens……my chickens make me happy!

My family loves to travel! It makes me happy to go to different countries and places and experience all that travel has to offer.

It is no secret that I often share my Endometriosis, infertility, and adoption journey in hopes that I can help just one person. I’m elated when I get a text or a message on social media or someone stops me in public and thanks me for sharing my story. There are not many resources or people willing to talk about these subjects and I want these women to feel that they are not alone in their battle. I vowed to always be an open book so that my struggle can help out others traveling down a similar path. Who knows, you may see a book out of me one day!
