Conversations with Ceira Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ceira Williams.

Hi Ceira, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After giving birth to my daughter in July 2020 I was trying to think of a way to make money and be a stay at home mom. This was during the beginning of the pandemic so a lot of people were branching out starting a business. I was discussing ideas with my family when my brother suggested I sell mac and cheese in a jar. At first, I was iffy about it because I hadn’t seen it done before. I started off with three flavors dabbling with new ones here and there. My mom gave me the idea for the name as it’s named after my daughter. K Mac’s Mac & Cheese was up and running. Like any other business, I had slow days and sometimes I wanted to give up. At one point, I paused and started working for someone else. Last year, July 2021 I quit my job and decided to take my business more seriously. I put out flyers, paid promo teams, and began trying to get on with doing events. I went from a little over 200 followers to over 1,000 and my page is still growing. I have truly grown from my cooking techniques, food ideas, and content creation. My business is currently home-based but this year, I am working hard to get my food truck.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This definitely has not been a smooth road. There’s been days I’ve made nothing, days when I struggled to make a profit, days when I was just plain tired. Running a business at home with a very active toddler is a little tough. It also plays a role in why I am unable to participate in certain events or be open later hours. I try to cater to my child and my customers.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make flavored mac and cheese with flavors such as cajun shrimp, buffalo chicken, barbecue chicken, broccoli cheddar, and yams. I sell it in personal pans as well as jars. I also have boneless wings, mac and cheese egg rolls, and cookies. I make mac and cheese jars because it’s unique and catches people’s eye. I enjoy decorating each jar with layers of flavors and mac and cheese. I pride myself in presentation and making food that not only looks good but also tastes good. I’m most proud of the fact that I make everything myself so it’s always authentic and fresh.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like that it’s a big city and there’s so many people to meet and try my food! There’s so many opportunities here in the city! One thing I like least is the traffic! It really interferes with me making deliveries in a timely manner.
