Today we’d like to introduce you to Cenobia Hilton.
Hi Cenobia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my creative journey back in 2006 as a graphic designer, creating handmade greeting cards and logos. What began as a passion for design soon evolved into a full-service creative outlet — from flyers and branding to marketing materials for small businesses.
During the pandemic, I found myself wanting to stay productive and keep my family well-fed. That’s when I began experimenting in the kitchen, sharing my meals and food photos on social media. What started as a way to pass the time quickly turned into something much bigger — people began asking if I sold plates! Soon, I was selling meals, then catering events, and discovering a new layer of creativity through food.
I eventually took on one of my biggest personal challenges: my daughter’s Sweet 16 celebration. I poured every part of my creative energy into it — from designing the decor and balloons to cooking and styling the event. That experience opened my eyes to how seamlessly my design background and culinary passion worked together.
Today, I continue to merge those worlds — offering catering, event styling, and balloon decor. And now, I’m working toward releasing my own cookbook, which feels like the perfect way to bring my creative journey full circle.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all — the journey has definitely had its challenges. Balancing my professional career, creative passions, and family life as a mom and wife can be overwhelming at times. There are moments when I feel completely burned out trying to juggle it all and still show up creatively.
The creative industry has also changed a lot over the years. With the rise of DIY tools and templates, the demand for traditional graphic design has slowed down, which was discouraging at first. There have been seasons where business is booming and others where it’s been quiet — and learning to navigate those highs and lows has been part of my growth.
Through it all, I’ve learned the importance of giving myself grace, taking breaks when needed, and trusting that the slow seasons are just as valuable as the busy ones.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
By day, I work in Finance as a Procurement Manager for a charter school, and by passion, I’m an entrepreneur in the creative field. I’m a proud graduate of Howard University, where I earned my degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Chemistry — a combination that reflects both my analytical and artistic sides.
I’ve always believed that I have an extraordinary mind — one that thrives on creativity, innovation, and connection. My Gallup Strengths — WOO, Communication, Positivity, Arranger, and Connectedness — truly describe who I am at my core. I love engaging with people, finding creative solutions, and bringing ideas to life in ways that inspire others.
I’m most proud of my ability to accomplish whatever I set my mind to. Whether it’s designing, cooking, planning, or creating something completely new, I approach every project with passion and purpose. What sets me apart is my authenticity — I don’t try to be anyone else. I show up as myself, and I have a natural ability to turn visions into reality.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
When you’re just starting out, don’t be afraid to start small. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect — you just have to begin. There will be moments of doubt, burnout, and even comparison, but don’t let that stop you. Stay true to who you are and give yourself grace along the way.
I also had to learn that you won’t please everyone — and that’s okay. Some people just aren’t your clients, but you are for someone. The right people will connect with your energy, your creativity, and your work in a more meaningful way. I wish I had known earlier that it’s okay to pause, recharge, and trust that t
