Conversations with Chad Conley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Conley.

Hi Chad, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Born and raised in the GREAT city of Atlanta, GA. From being a classically trained pianist to playing tuba in the incomparable Florida A&M’s Marching 100!! Music has always driven my life and performing was always the highest honor.

After my college days I did a small stint with Drumline Live (look em up) and the finally landed as one-half of the production duo TraxxSpinnas.

Had a ton of highs and some of the lows helped me realize my ultimate desire of being a music composer for film and tv.

And that’s where we are today…Harmon Dynamics! We provide original scores written specifically for original material.

Jumping into the space of film scoring I was extremely unsure of where to start but with a little guidance from friends, I was introduced to the 48-hour film festival and things kind of took off from there.

I’ve done a slew of shorts and a good 7+ feature films and series. There’s even a film with Taye Diggs in the mix that I’m extremely excited about.

I love working with dope creatives and would like to continue to build a network of friends in the industry and be of service.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I tell everyone all the time that I didn’t go to Berkeley. Meaning that all the work that I’ve gotten, I’ve had to be a go-getter and grab myself.

So, a ton of networking events and handshaking.

But the passion keeps me going and every bump in the road I look at as a learning lesson. Something that I can either do better with or avoid altogether.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most proud of the most recent film that I scored. It’s titled ‘The Comeback’ starring Taye Diggs and Apryl Jones.

I never thought I would be doing comedy scores but I super appreciated the challenge that it brought and I’m happy with the music that was created.

What sets me apart from others is my willingness to work on all genres. I never want to close myself off to just action or drama films. Everybody can get this work.

I’m personally known for playing Stevie Wonder’s ‘Ribbon In The Sky’ at your local piano bar.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Confidence, consistency and attack your opportunities.

Again, I didn’t go to Berkeley…so nothing has been hand-delivered to me. I have to seek all of the projects that I’ve gotten and be consistent with the work that I provide.
