Conversations with Chad Michael Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Michael Brown.

Hi Chad Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Acting was never really on my radar. I mean I thought about doing some plays in Highschool. I was always a pretty shy person, kept things pretty internal. But at the encouragement of the drama teacher, I decided to try out for a play my senior year. I never really pursued it again, put it away and just let it lay if you will. Then started thinking about it again in the early 2000s, kind of looked into it, but again pushed it away and let it sit, that is until 2015 at the ripe old age of 46. I decided to push past the fear, past the 1000’s of reasons and voices telling me not to and started to take classes. I found that it was something that sparked something else inside of me. I looked forward to it more and more, pushing the fear aside, finding excitement in the journey. Started to do some student films, a couple of indie films and projects, then a couple of commercials for a local Colorado car dealer. And just kept on moving forward getting an agent and connecting with other actors and Casting Directors. In 2020 I was diagnosed with cancer in my tonsils, ended up getting a full tonsillectomy and removal of a 4cm tumor in my throat, As of today I’m still cancer free. In July of 2021, we moved from Colorado to Fayetteville GA, just south of Atlanta. Since moving to GA, I took a little time off from acting to get acclimated to the area and the much larger and busier Acting scene. I’m not back in acting classes, doing workshops when I can, have done some background for a new series from FX / Disney, and recently booked a pilot, can’t really say anything about it though.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, it’s been mostly smooth, other than the aforementioned cancer in 2020. It’s always a struggle, the constant doubts, constant rejection, but that’s also what drives you.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I’m an actor but have only been doing that a very short time relative to my day-to-day career of working in the IT industry. I’ve been doing that for 24 years. As it stands today, I can’t really say I’m known for anything other than being dependable. I’m most proud of my children and the way they have become such amazing adults and gone after the things that they want. What sets me apart, I mean, I think it’s my willingness to try new things, to show up, and just keep moving forward. But really that’s everyone if they want to be successful at anything.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Honestly, I’ve never really gotten into the podcast thing or blogs really. Occasionally I’ll listen to some different acting podcasts, but I’m usually doing other things and just don’t think about pulling them up, I’d rather listen to music. As for books, I’ve always been a fan of Stephen King and Louis L’Amour. I have a list of books for acting I should probably read, I just haven’t gotten to them yet. One I have read is The Keys to Commercial Acting by Stuart Stone. Really as far as resources, if I’m trying to figure something out or find a better way to do something it’s Google and Youtube…not groundbreaking by any means.
