Conversations with Charles Morton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Morton.

Hi Charles, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Morton Electric was started as a side hustle honestly. At the time, I was a full time commercial electrician making what I thought was a decent living. I had steady work, good experience, an electrical license, and a strong understanding of a trade, but I also saw opportunities to do things better from the very beginning. Especially when it came to transparency, integrity, workmanship, and communication.

I knew I had something special almost immediately based on the type of response we were getting from the public. I started getting so much business I didn’t have time to relax during my off time. I would get off of work and literally work an additional 4 to 8 hours daily as well as every saturday and sunday. Also, I started getting a lot of calls from family, friends, and referrals. I was always complimented on how thoroughly I explained things to people and the fact that I would always do so in such a patient manner.

As demand grew so did my vision. I started to Invest into the people that were helping me make it happen as well as into marketing the company in order to create the opportunity for us to be successful. Building a company that prioritizes quality, customer satisfaction, transparency in all aspects of the business, fair pricing, and clear concise communication was a tall task but it was a task that we were all ready to meet head on. Around this time my day job was becoming an obstruction that I knew needed to be removed. However, I knew I had to be disciplined enough to stick to my plan which was to continue working my 9-5 until a certain financial milestone was accomplished. I resigned 3 months after my financial goal was met. I knew this was just the beginning and that it was time for the real work to begin.

Today I pride myself on treating people how I want to be treated, staying consistent, nurturing relationships and most importantly remembering what it took to establish the foundation for this wonderful company. From my roots as inner city Atlanta youth to where I currently reside as a proud business owner, husband, son, brother, friend, and father. I must say I am very happy with how things have gone over the last 12 years of being in the people business. I truly enjoy what I do on a daily basis with Morton Electric. I’m deeply proud of where we have come as a company that will continue to grow through serving the people in the right way through honesty, integrity, and treating each and every customer the right way.

I’m so Sorry! I had no intention on typing so much when I started typing…

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our path has been extremely smooth from a customer perspective. There have been some organizational changes, due to how certain things have transpired over the years. I had to learn how to be more effective at the things I was good at in order to better streamline processes within the organization. My struggles have been mostly due to personnel. Trying to train too many people at the same time. etc. Nothing major. This has all been a major part of my stride to be better and more disciplined in all aspects of life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an Electrician who just happens to own the company that he works for. We provide electrical services for home and business owners in metro Atlanta and surrounding areas.

I specialize in customer service, wiring things in a neat workman like manner, installing troubleshooting electrical systems.

I’m known for being patient, helpful, creative, motivated, a self starter, patient, straight forward, and giving anything I truly want 100+ Percent.

I’m most proud of my relationship with my wife and kids.

My drive sets me apart from others. I’m Never complacent.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The togetherness. I would have to say people from where I’m from in Atlanta stick together. We’re all one big happy family!

How a lot of the up and coming young adults seemingly don’t want to work for anything. I feel like the majority of our upcoming young adults are lazy and have a major entitlement sense. I think overall they’re smarter but definitely lazier. I feel like the impact won’t really be felt for at least another 5-10 years though.
