Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Gilyard.
Hi Christian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a 30 years old entrepreneur from Washington DC, who currently resides in Elizabeth City, NC. I started my business back in 2018 with just frying chicken and cooking just for family and friends. It was then I realized that I really enjoyed what I do and thought to press forward and continue on. Before working for myself I had many jobs in the culinary field such as fine dining, fine dining casual, fast foods, etc. Between all of these different backgrounds of food service, I choose to work in it helped me with putting my first foot forward with my business. I owe a great gratitude to my grandmother Daisy Gilyard, my godfather Darryl Jenkins and of course my high school culinary arts program. Since December 1st, 2021, I am proud to say that Oh Yard Boyz LLC has been up and running for five-string months and counting. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being in business has its ups and downs but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Has the road been tough yes but in order to get to the top you have to hit some cracks and fall sometimes.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Oh yard boyz LLC is a good and catering business which specializes in soul food and grilling. The most I am proud of about my business is were one of the first hog hen cook-offs here in Elizabeth City, NC.
How do you think about luck?
I would have to say luck isn’t the actual timer but praying to God is what got me to where I am.
