Conversations with Claire Lin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Lin.

Claire Lin

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi everyone, my name is Claire. I am a 2D focus motion designer. I have a passion for 2D graphic design, illustration, and animation. I started finding my interest in remaking a short film for Jane Eyre. As I explored video editing more, I realized my passion for motion graphics. As soon as I discovered my passion, I expanded my technical skills in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Procreate, etc. I enrolled at Savannah College of Art and Design.

Now, I have experience as a MOMELove officer and as a Graphic Designer on the CoMotion Branding Team for two years. MOMELove: is an educational club at SCAD. I directed, organized, and facilitated on-campus workshops and events. CoMotion Branding Team: is an annual motion graphics conference that brings together top industry professionals at SCAD.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I sometimes experience homesickness while living on the other side of the world from my hometown. That means I get to build up my support system here in Savannah. I have a few close friends; we often hang out and take care of each other. Sometimes, I experience technical difficulties or encounter career questions. The professors and friends at SCAD have been very supportive and helpful. Whenever I encounter problems, I always have people to go to.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a 2D focus motion designer, one thing that sets me apart is that I am willing to work on extra work. While working on the AR postcard for SCAD CoMotion, I made a storyboard after designing the postcard. Later, I volunteer to animate the AR postcard as well. I am ambitious, and I like to push myself to try new things. I ended up learning so much from the process and having an enjoyable time designing and animating the postcard.

What makes you happy?
My happiness comes from the little milestones I encounter on my journey to become a better motion designer. Whenever I step on a little milestone, it feels like I unlock one of my skills. Sometimes, it’s color choices, font placements, or the design composition. These milestones have shaped me and inspired me to keep going.
