Conversations with Cleveland Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cleveland Jones.

Hi Cleveland, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in North, South Carolina, immersed in church culture, where my mom and grandfather sang. Though shy, my mom pushed me to perform, starting in church. I attended Morehouse, joined the Glee Club, and later graduated from Berklee. I performed at indie spots like Apache Café, did background vocals, and then released my first album, “Ace of Hearts,” in 2013. After earning my degree from Berklee, I released another album, “Let’s Make Love,” in 2020. Now, I’m launching my band, Cleveland and The Cliff, with a debut at the Atlanta Jazz Festival this May. It’s been a journey from small-town church to international stages, and I’m excited for what’s next!”

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There were numerous challenges—from record deals that fell through to moments I truly questioned whether I should continue. But each struggle was a profound learning experience. I could have given up, but I chose to persevere. Every step, no matter how difficult, has been worth it, because it’s led me to where I am now.”

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer, songwriter, and performer, specializing in live performances, studio work, and stylistic vocal delivery. I’m known for my distinctive voice and artistic versatility. I’m most proud of my perseverance—from graduating Berklee to collaborating with major artists like Arrested Development and Chaka Khan. What sets me apart is my authenticity—I embrace who I am as both an artist and a person. I’m always evolving, learning, and delivering music that’s uniquely mine, connecting deeply with people along the way.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
A surprising side of me is that I’m an avid baker—it’s my therapy! I also approach life holistically, valuing solitude, introspection, and balancing my introverted nature with my extroverted career.
