Conversations with Coach Q Atkinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coach Q Atkinson.

Hi Coach Q, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always had a love for both basketball and teaching others, so naturally this led me to helping out with many basketball skills camps and other events over the years. Even while focusing on my own collegiate career, I have enjoyed teaching what I know to the youth and giving them something new that will stay with them far longer than the time I have with them.

I decided that I wanted to turn this passion into a career to continue to enhance lives, and that is the path that I have set out on.

HISTORY:
I played 4 years of collegiate basketball as well as some experience playing in Portugal; so I have played with, and against, a high volume of talent.

During my career, I was able to accrue numerous accomplishments such as:
Led my conference in scoring,
Selected to All-Conference Team
First Conference Championship in school history,
Player of the Week honors,
Most wins in a single season in school history.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was difficult making the transition from a high-level player to that of a personal coach playing in less competitive settings. In a way, it felt like I should keep pursuing professional basketball endeavors as long as I could manage to, but something also felt like it was an appropriate time to start exploring the teaching route.

There is a saying that the day you let go of something is the day you can teach it to others — I had this in the back of my mind while ultimately deciding that I wanted to focus on becoming a full-time skills coach.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My passions in life have always revolved around basketball and music. I have a new YouTube channel (Coach Q basketball) set up with tutorial videos and helpful tips for athletes of all skill levels to learn from as they progress in their respective journeys.

I also have a YouTube channel (SilverDollar Reacts) that is centered around music reviews, creating music, and various other content.

I believe what sets me apart from others is that I am able to adapt to different scenarios and find the best solution for each situation. I think this approach helps me with specializing training towards each individual’s needs, as well as finding creative ways to overcome obstacles musically.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I am fortunate to have at least one booking nearly every day of the previous couple months! 🙏 I always invite the addition of new clients. Unfortunately, slots are limited as we get deeper into the basketball season, so definitely reach out.
