Conversations with Corina Vesce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corina Vesce.

Hi Corina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. I am currently living in Miami, FL pursuing my career as an architect.

I came to the United States when I graduated from high school, at only 18 years old. It was the opportunity I’d dreamed of and I decided to start my career as an architect in SCAD, Savannah College of Art and Design. I graduated with a major in architecture and a minor in interior design and architectural history. After studying at SCAD, I had no idea what I wanted to do, I wanted to start my master’s, but at the same time, I wanted to work so I could have real-life experience in the field. After discussing my future with my family and friends, I decided to apply for different positions in the industry and leave my master’s for the years to come.

I am currently working for a firm called STA Architectural group, where I have been for only four months. I have learned so much, not only in architecture but in interior design as well. I have been able to work in both fields, which has made me realize that in the future, I would love to focus more on interior design than architecture. This was exactly the opportunity I needed and wanted to get after graduation. The decision of working in the industry for a couple of years opened my eyes to what I really wanted to do. If I’d decided to get my master’s right after graduation, I wouldn’t have been able to understand where my passion for design was gearing towards.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is never easy; I firmly believe that what easy comes easy goes. Challenging yourself is the best way to get out of your comfort zone and learn how to grow as a person. It has been a road full of ups and downs, but I wouldn’t change anything. I’m where I’m supposed to be in this moment in life and I wouldn’t change a single decision I made in the past.

Coming to the United States and starting an entire life in Savannah, away from my family was difficult for me but it has shaped me into the person I am today. My perspective of life changed; I valued so many things that I’d overlooked before. I have had so many challenges that I never thought I would overcome, and I did. I made friends from all over the world, met excellent professors I consider mentors now, and most important, it helped me grow in many ways. I used to doubt myself so much and never thought I would make it this far, I am so proud of myself, and I can’t wait to see what life has for me in the future.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently working in an architectural firm called STA Architectural Group as an Interior design associate. I started four months ago, two weeks after I graduated. At first, I was nervous; starting my first job doing what I love was so nerve-racking. My journey with company has not been linear but I am enjoying the process and the opportunities the firm has given me. I started in the architecture team for the first two months, and then the last month, I was transferred to interior design and I’m loving every second of it.

Working in these two different departments has made me learn so much; it is incredible how different it is from school and how much I still have to learn. My mentors are fantastic and so patient with me. They take the time to work with me, teach me, and ensure I understand everything.

I am most proud of the hard work I have put in since day one and how far I have gotten since I left Venezuela. It has been very challenging, but there is nothing that I enjoy more than doing what I love. Therefore, I will continue giving my best every day.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I have never been a book fan. I’ve been trying to incorporate the habit of reading into my daily routine and thus far, I’ve been trying to read a minimum of 20 minutes a day. So thus far, I do not have any book recs but I’ll keep you all posted. On the other hand, podcasts I love. A couple I’ve been into lately are “The Kindest Mentor,” “On purpose with Jay Shetty,” and “The Skinny Confidential.” I love working on the better version of myself all of these podcasts have helped one way or another to love myself, be mindful and present but most of all, love the life I live.
