Today we’d like to introduce you to Corta. Them and their team share their story with us below:
The mastermind behind nine short films, one feature film, four stage plays, two web series, three feature skits, a full network of talk shows all produced and created by Corta with titles such as Troubled America. We Have Something To Talk About, Rated M, Indie Talk Show, Out and Legendary, also a dance coach for the North Dallas Trojans Cheer Team and so much more, Corta has made himself known in the entertainment industry. Working on becoming a household name as an independent writer and filmmaker, he has a unique touch on bringing twisted drama and real life stories to life. Born and raised in Selma, Al, his childhood was from a low-income family being raised by a single mother who was raising two other males as well. From a young age, Corta has always been creative from arts and craft to writing. Characterized by love, determination, wisdom, and strength, life and struggles has provided Corta with the inspiration to continue the path in creating. As time progress, Corta was putting together impromptu plays for his family gathering such as Hip Hop Nutcracker and a Christmas show. He has also became first place winner in the class storybook competition. Being in Selma, it was hard for Corta to produce a stage play or create a film because of the resources and the limit amount of support the city had. That didn’t stop Corta from writing and creating because he knew one day he would be able to visually show off his creativity. Corta has had many struggles in life from living arrangements to being jobless, almost being homeless, bullied, mistreated by friends, sexual molested, watching his mom be mistreated by others, and having to be the man of the house, he use those issues to become better as a writer. That’s when the storytelling become so different and unique.
Newly established in the theater and film, Corta has written nine short films and one feature film over the years, including Silent Partner, Intuition Assassination, Femme Vengeance, Ghost Pains: The Monster Within, Elfviticus, Shattered Love, Justice, just to name a few. During the times in Texas, he has also created a series as that was both written by himself and Sharae Sanders Schmitt longtime friend entitled And This Is My Story. He has also written a series titled Bermuda Triangle and America Unbeautiful along with Out In The South, which is based on true events in Dallas, and many others. With so many films under his belt, he also decided to go back to his roots and produce his first stage play in May 2018 titled Discreet also known as HUSH. He went along and produced his second stage play in the same year November 2018 title Burning Flame which became a sold-out show and major hit. As you can see Corta is no stranger to the arts of theatre and film. In 2017 Corta decided to expand his craft and offer his writing to others. After being in the game for some time, others started noticing him and begin to reach out to him to write for them. In 2017, Corta was asked to write a stage production titled “Why Woman Trip” a true story based on the life of Torie Lee which starred Momma Dee, Miguel Munez, Mike Merill, Silk the Shocker, Ebony Steele, Lo London just to name a few which was under the direction of well-known award-winning writer, director and producer Snoop Robinson.
After that, he expanded more and wrote for many others including the all new type of murder mystery show call Trap Murder Mystery which is a hardcore murder mystery the only one of its kind and is not currently on tour as of April 2019 after having 13 sold-out shows in Dallas, TX. This allowed him to create more shows like Perfect Marriage Guilty Pleasure, Perfect Marriage Guilty Pleasure: A Family Affair, But I’m Married, and more. In the recent years, Corta has got his Spike Lee on by making appearances in a few of his films, working on stage on other productions, working behind the scenes on other productions, and encouraging others to keep doing what they do best and that’s to create. Corta dreams and goals is to become the Tyler Perry for his family and own his own studio which features mini sound stages, rehearsal space, theaters for both stage and film. Corta is also a published photography in Devine Magazine for his Disney Series! Corta is known as a Graphix Designer, Photographer, Writer, Dancer, and Computer Geek. Corta has overcome many series of obstacles including Suicide, Bullying, and close to homeless with his family. Today, after overcoming those obstacles, it has made him stronger than ever and made him realize that even though certain things happen in your life, you still have the freedom and power to be successful in all that is meant for you to do! In 2019, Corta name came from Corta Productions and Films to I Am Corta Entertainment. So when people ask him, Who are you, his response is, I Am Corta of I Am Corta Entertainment
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
If the road is too smooth, that means you are doing something wrong. Nothing is never smooth when you are growing and being successful. You have to face many obstacles to get to where you want to be. Many struggles that I had and still is going through is finances and people not taking me serious enough. Besides finances, other struggles includes team building and finding time to take a break.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The type of work I do centers around anything film and stage. I look at myself as a creator, not just a writer because when it comes to doing stage productions, set building is what I do. I build my own sets and props. When it comes to filmmaking, I do my own location scouting to ensure I have everything. I do have a few people in my corner who will help out and I am very grateful for, but I will do a lot of the work myself. I’m also into apparel. Which means I am not a fashion designer, but I do help make sure that the ideas you have on paper is brought to life through HTV and Sublimation. My biggest accomplishment that makes me very happy is being able to make sure that a smile is left on everyone’s face once they see any of my films or stage productions.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There are not many but there are a few people that have helped me get to where I am today. From family to friends, everyone have motivated me in some kind of way to keep pushing me. Either if it was giving motivation or encouraging words, helping with building items, set help, or just being there when I am down, I always had someone I can turn to.
