Conversations with Darii Maxey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darii Maxey.

Hi Darii, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Started when I got denied by AMDA in high school I was bummed out. Not letting it discourage me I just kept thinking what can I do to showcase my talent but also raise awareness about the Bay Area talent that we have grown tremendously and that’s when I thought of the show “Up & Coming” where I interview artist such as DJ Shell Heart, J12, & Priceless Da Roc. They would come on my platform get an interview and show case their talent on my platform but with many attempts, it didn’t take fully off, a couple of years later I switched my name but never the vision and that’s how DaBaysTv came into play.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A smooth road.? Not even. I would neglect my true passion because I had to get a job and figure out how to pay my bills so it would be months before I would do interviews and that’s the thing consistency is key and that’s what I kept missing. Artists are always willing to get interviewed so it should be easy right? Wrong artist would get back to me because either their DM’s was full of messages or their schedule would conflict with my work schedule or just work in general would get in the way and when that would happen I would leave the job and look for another and start the cycle all over again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I bring awareness to Bay Area talent with an on-camera interview as to who they are, how they got started, what obstacles have they faced on their musical journey, & where people could find more of their work. I even went as far as having a platform kinda similar to 106&Park where I would tell my followers about the new music upcoming parties here in the Bay Area.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The best thing I love about my city is how everyone knows everybody, you go to a club and it’s like a networking event to a certain extent like: “oh this my friend So and So” “oh yeah I connected with them at this one video shoot we locked in an interview already” or “do you know this person“ ”yeah I got introduced to them a while back at such and such event”. It never fails what I dislike about my city is often times people from here tend to have “crabs in the bucket” mentality. It’s hard to get support from your own city sometimes cause they want you to shine but not harder than them.
