Conversations with Deb Currans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deb Currans.

Hi Deb, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Star Stuff started by my attending local juried and non-juried craft events in the Woodstock area and surrounding suburbs. My hand wire wrapped creations with gemstones became a hit at these events, so I decided to open a brick and mortar location called Star Stuff in Downtown Woodstock in 2017. The original store opened as a test run and was also successful, adding rock gem and mineral specimens, incense, clothes, and geeky gifts to the inventory. In 2018 Star Stuff moved to downtown Acworth at 4549 Lemon Street and has become a popular stop for shoppers. In 2022, I opened my second location back in Woodstock, this time at 1910 Eagle Drive in Townelake. With the addition of a second location, I now have more room to create, producing original designs in necklaces, bracelets and earrings in addition to doing custom pieces for the public. And if you ever visit, you will always find a table outside which reminds me where the business came from…. The craft shows.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every day has challenges one must face, especially having two locations, but it is a joy and blessing to have them. It has been a learning experience.

What sets us apart from other gem and mineral stores is producing hand made jewelry designs and custom pieces for my customers . I am a Graduate of Studio Jewelers in New York as a bench Jeweler. Also I am an alumni of the Gemological Institute of America in New York with an AJP, and color stones and diamond certification. I worked at GIAs main laboratory for 5 years in New York. My education has made Star Stuff an informed rock and mineral store with the ability to hand craft jewelry.

What makes you happy?
Working with the public. I have customers from age 5 to 85 and everywhere in-between. Each day is different and delightful.
