Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetrius Jennings.
Hi Demetrius, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My dad was a huge football fan and by age three, I always had a genuine love for college football. It was something I would never stop talking about it or playing the video games. When I was 11, I had of vision of being a YouTuber and making my own videos about football. I didn’t start making Youtube videos until my senior year of high school in 2018, but making videos on my true passion didn’t happen until the pandemic in 2020 using stimulus checks to fund my gaming channel. I’ve been going strong since that day
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Some struggles I had mostly circled around writer’s block. The video game series I play had discontinued in 2013. So whatever ideas I came up with took a lot of time to conjure up. Some cases, I had to freestyle my ideas before I made the videos. I also struggled with not comparing my work to other content creators. It’s important to trust your own craft and in some cases, my confidence was a little bit shot so much that it felt important to take a break from doing what I love
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make and get paid by YouTube to make and play sports video games. I’m most proud of the fact I never gave up, 4 years on YouTube is such a lot of time to be consistent and I’m looking forward to more years. What honestly sets me apart from most is consistency to keep going. I’m 22 years old with a full-time job. It’s hard to keep going with it knowing your always losing sleep to chase dreams, but it’ll all be worth.
What matters most to you?
What matters to me the most is having fun. In my early 20’s and getting paid at all to do something, I would generally take away the fun when you’re looking for ways to get your next viral video. Having fun reminds me to not stress so much while making videos
