Conversations with DeShon LeMay

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeShon LeMay.

Hi DeShon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started making content roughly a year and a half ago. I didn’t have a plan or a vision on anything but I knew I could do something big. I created trimm.city on Instagram, an Atlanta fashion page where I go around asking people in the city who outfits are trim or unique and ask them where they got their pieces from. Later down the line, I would get asked questions by people such as: Are you a model? Is this your brand? You make content? Clearly I had the look for something and I never realized it. One day I told myself I’m going to start modeling and that was around the middle of August and I never let up off the gas. ATLFW started having casting calls shortly after. I never walked in a show a day in my life but yolo. I was able to make 3 casting calls and was selected for 1 which was the best opportunity I could ask for. Octavius Terry’s 10th collection. After the show, it really gave me the confidence to continue to pursue anything I put my mind to and now I’ll be walking for NYFW and I’m in the process of starting my own brands. A streetwear clothing brand “void” and a high fashion brand “LeMay”. I plan on making my 1st drop for Void in October. The anniversary of the beginning for me

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been ups and downs to be honest. Definitely more ups though. I think the main thing I struggled with was imposter syndrome. It was weird. Like I knew I had the experience, the capability, everything to be successful. I knew I wouldn’t be in the rooms I were in if I didn’t but for some reason in my head I’d tell myself it was crazy that I’m here but in fact it wasn’t. I was right where I needed to be. I was in those rooms because of my work ethic and others saw that. Once I realized that it was a game changer for me

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve been in healthcare most of my life. I received my CNA at 16, and phlebotomy certification at 17. Graduated from the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University with a B.S in Biology. I’ve worked at davita and Emory dialysis as a patient care technician (PCT). I plan on going back to school to become either a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA). I think I’m leaning more towards AA. I’m also on the creative side a model, brand ambassador, stylist, UGC, and designer in loading

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best thing I like about Atlanta is the networking scene. It’s always somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody which could get you in a few doors I was talking about. My best advice to you if you living here or plan on moving here and got a path in the creative/artistic route NETWORK! And be authentic and genuine. People will see straight through you otherwise. The only thing I don’t like about the city is the traffic. Everyone and they mama started moving down here which is a blessing but at the same time man DRIVE!
