Conversations with Dinika Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dinika Johnson.

Hi Dinika, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2012 as my Grandmother Eva Mae dementia was progressing I had the thought to do something to continue to carry her name. Both her and my Grandmother Christine. After making a cake for one of my friend’s birthday I had the thought that baking could be something I do to call their name and talk about them to people. Share memories about what amazing women and bakers they are. So the birth of Eva Christine’s was December 2012. I was working full time as an athletic trainer at Georgia State for Men’s Basketball.
So I couldn’t really focus and invest into the business. In 2020 when Covid hit it gave me time to revisit my business adventure and after starting a new job as an athletic trainer at Northside hospital I had time to fully bake and I am grateful for how much it has grown and the opportunities I have had to create sweet desserts and share memories of both my Grandma Eva and my Grandma Christine with my customers.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has had it’s ups and downs. I wish I could spend all day baking and creating cake art but the main parts of my week days are spent taking care of patients- which don’t get me wrong is still something I love to do I just cant do both at the same time! So the first half of my day I am able to take care of patients and the second half of my day and weekends are dedicated to baking.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve always loved art—painting, creating, and the freedom that comes with bringing something to life from nothing. During undergrad, while studying Sports Medicine, I intentionally took an art course outside of my major. It gave me the balance I needed then—and honestly, it still does.

Today, I channel that same passion for creativity into designing cakes and desserts. But the cakes I create aren’t just desserts. They’re edible art and sweet memories in the making. My clients trust me to design something beautiful for their most meaningful occasions, and I don’t take that lightly. That responsibility carries weight, which is why every cake I create is thoughtfully personalized—never just “another cake,” but a reflection of the people and moments it’s meant to celebrate.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Having this gift of baking and being able to use it to bring happiness to other makes me happy. The hugs and smiles I get when customers receive their cake really males my heart smile each time.
