Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Blockk.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started making beats in 2007 when I went to Tory University in Alabama. Solo producer producing for my friends. One of my mentors (Bobby Kritical) was someone that inspired me to start producing. We went to high school together. He’s sign to rare sounds, K camp’s production team. Making beats was just a hobby at the time. It wasn’t for money. Rapping along the way, rapping to my own beats. 2012 I picked up DJ’ing. I started DJ’ing at my apartment. I started throwing house parties and the rest was history from there. I went from DJ’ing house parties to concerts, homecomings, weddings (etc.). While in the mist in the of DJ’ing, I was working on my music career. In 2016, I moved back to Atlanta and focused solely on Artistry and learning to perfect my craft. In 2020 is when I decided to come out as an Artist. Since then, I have released music videos on YouTube, I released a few singles and now in 2022, I have released my debut album “I Am Not A DJ” which is now on all music streaming platforms.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, there were a lot of obstacles along the way. I dropped out of college my sophomore year and fell into the streets in Troy, Alabama. I was in Troy by myself but I ended up building a lot of new relationships and connections. I was finding out who was for me and who was around to take advantage of me. During that time, I was In and out of jail, I had a lot of fake friends. I learned how to survive in an environment I wasn’t used to, coming from a big city to a small country town, Moving too fast In a slow pace town.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Rapper & DJ from Atlanta, GA. I’m mainly known for DJ’ing but I am now being more known for my music. What am I most proud of? I’m proud of the fact that I’m stepping out and actually making my goals come true. I once had low esteem and wasn’t confident. I felt like people didn’t wanna hear what I had to say but now that I’ve been pushing more in my career, I feel like my voice and talent is now being heard.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Yes, I’m also an entrepreneur. I have my own clothing line “Bag House Clothing’, I have my own catering business and my own record label. My goal Is to bring unity, manifestations, knowledge and affirmation to our culture.
