Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominic Atibil.
Hi Dominic, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my creative journey through design. I earned a degree in industrial design, which gave me a strong foundation in problem-solving, making things with intention, and thinking about how people interact with what we create. Over time, that same curiosity pulled me deeper into music — specifically house, techno, and electronic music.
What began as experimenting with DJing turned into a real passion. I started playing at local clubs, private events, and collaborating with other artists in Atlanta and beyond. I eventually launched my own brand, Konekt.atl, which focuses on building community through underground music, events, and creative collaboration. I’ve been able to work with collectives, host shows, play at notable venues, and continue sharpening my skills as a producer and performer.
Today, I’m still growing — playing more shows, producing new tracks, building community-focused projects, and staying committed to connecting people through sound, creativity, and shared experiences.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but it’s been a meaningful one.
One of the earliest challenges I faced was learning how to navigate the blurred lines between friendship and business. When you start building things with friends, you expect the passion to align just as naturally as the relationship does. But real life doesn’t always work that way. I found myself in situations where projects didn’t unfold the way we imagined, and suddenly I was trying to preserve the work while also trying to preserve the friendship. Those moments taught me a lot about communication, boundaries, and the importance of shared vision. They were tough lessons, but necessary ones.
At the same time, I was balancing a full-time 9–5 with a passion that lives in the night. Anyone who works in nightlife or music knows the grind — long days turning into even longer nights, finishing a shift and heading straight to a gig, a studio session, or an event. There’s a physical and mental toll that comes with that rhythm, especially when you’re trying to build something from the ground up. I had to learn how to manage my energy, stay disciplined, and keep creating even when I was exhausted.
But through every challenge — the strained partnerships, the late nights, the sacrifices — there was growth. Those experiences pushed me to get clearer about my purpose, more intentional with my time, and more resilient in the face of setbacks. And ultimately, they shaped the artist and entrepreneur I’m becoming today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work sits at the intersection of music, design, and community.
I’m a DJ and emerging electronic music producer specializing in house, techno, and underground electronic sounds. I’m known for creating sets that are immersive and emotional — the kind that guide people through a mood or moment rather than just playing tracks back-to-back. My style leans deep, rhythmic, and intentional, and I take pride in reading a room and shaping an experience that feels connected.
I was also a cofounder of Konekt Entertainment LLC, a brand centered around underground events, creative collaboration, and community. Being part of that journey helped me understand the power of building spaces where people feel seen and inspired. About a year ago, I stepped away from the event production side to focus fully on my own music production, artistic growth, and personal projects. That transition allowed me to dive deeper into my sound, my vision, and the direction I want to take as an artist.
What I’m most proud of is that everything I do — from DJing to producing to building community in my own ways — comes from a genuine place. I didn’t take the traditional route into the music industry. I carved my own lane through curiosity, consistency, and a willingness to experiment.
What sets me apart is that I approach music the way I approach design: as an experience. I’m always thinking about how sound, environment, energy, and people come together to create a moment.
How do you define success?
It’s less about accolades or numbers and more about whether I’m creating things that feel true to who I am. If I’m growing creatively, impacting people through my music, and staying connected to the communities that shaped me, that feels like success.
I also measure success by consistency. Showing up when it’s hard, staying committed when the path isn’t clear, and continuing to evolve — those things matter more to me than any single milestone.
And finally, success is freedom: the ability to build my life around the things I love, to choose the projects that inspire me, and to create opportunities for myself and others. If I’m moving closer to that kind of freedom, I feel like I’m on the right track.
