Conversations with Donald Jumper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donald Jumper.

Hi Donald, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Donald Jumper. A Grady baby who grew up in East Point. My twin sister and I have always loved fashion. Ever since middle school, my mother with limited means made sure we were well-dressed for school. Paul D West and Tri-Cities may be schools for learning but in those days going to school was very much a fashion show.

I had a lot of brothers growing up. We didn’t have a lot but you wouldn’t know because we made the most out of what we had. Because of my upbringing Humble Beginnings means so much to me and I’m sure my story is the same for many and that’s why I wanted to create a company that lets you take pride in where you’re from. That’s what made you, mold you, and gave you the grit to become successful.

Recently, First Lady Michelle Obama told a class that when she talks about her journey, “she starts with the fact that she’s from the Southside of Chicago!” No matter how far you go —your Humble Beginnings are forever with you.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I look at challenges as learning opportunities. Therefore, next time you know how to better position yourself for success. Because of those learning opportunities many decisions are very intentional.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Since 2017, Humble Beginnings has forged a reputation as a Jeansmith to the One. Creating apparel which allows you to express yourself through garments that represent you, your upbringing and your passion. Crafted in the soul of Atlanta Georgia. Humble Beginnings represents the People, our struggle, our journey and achievements.

We have been fortunate to partner and make apparel for several large companies such as: General Motors, The SWAC, Krystal’s, Slutty Vegan & Legendz of the Streetz Tour. Recently, the largest flooring company in the world Mohawk Industries, selected Humble Beginnings to partner on their new Denim Carpet release.

What matters most to you?
Legacy. What will you be known for when you leave this earth? The most influential people, the ones who leave behind incredible legacies, will live on in the hearts of the people they touch.
