Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Mitchell
Hi Donna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
If we fast forward a bit, in 2018 God gave me the opportunity to move forward with my purpose and passion of music. Although I was a singer, I no longer sing but I am completely on a mission for God to make a difference in this today’s industry of music, entertainment and film. I started with no idea where God was leading me but very obedient to move permanently to Atlanta to pursue the journey. I am so blessed as the road has been very prosperous in connecting with some of the most amazing legends that genuinely want to see the best for me. I am truly in a good space at this time in my life to nurture souls but still be firm within my company, DE Music Management. As of today, I am branded “Momma Donna”by some of the industry most amazing artists.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To this day it has been a smooth road however the challenges that I face is simply being able to find the right team that aligns with my vision and mission. I have grown so much over the years and now is the time to push even harder. It’s a bit scary at times but I generally follow my sprit and it seems to work out.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being adopted before I was born, I now understand more and more who I truly am after raising three sons as a single parent. God says the time is now for what I have gifted to you. When I graduated from High School I had a full scholarship to the Fashion Institute of New York however at 18 years old I was pregnant with my first child and life begin to take a different path for me. After realizing that I was in that position I had to make life make sense. So I walked into a apartment community at a very young age to find out what it would take to get a home for me and my babies. I had no experience of anything at that point but I totally remembered everything my Mom and Dad instilled in me, Strength and Resilience to conquer anything. After introducing myself to the lady in that office, she saw something in me that I didn’t even know I had and she asked me, have you ever worked? I said to her, no and she looked at me and said, I am going to watch your babies in the office and I want you to go and show the apartment to the appointment that was scheduled in about 15 minutes.
I looked at her and said, no mam I can’t do that because I have never done that before. She says, I believe in you and you can do it. I was scared because I didn’t know why she was asking me to do this. All I cold think about was leaving my babies in the office with a total stranger. She assured me that my babies would be just fine. So I trusted God and did what she asked me to. Needless to say, I blew it away as the person that I toured the apartment with was the Regional Manager. We came back to the office and at that point, I was hired and not only that, I had my very first home for me and my babies. I cried all the way home and just like that I became a Leasing Professional 30 years ago to this day.
This was the beginning of my Property Management career that actually led me to some amazing opportunities that today plays a big role in my music management career and business relationships.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The industry is most definitely taking a turn and hopefully for the better. I remember the time when there was just good music. I am hoping that one day as many things come back around, that music will do the same. 2025-2026 is going to be a huge move for my company as I am branding and building the business to be a very prominent booking agency for the stars. The best feeling you can have is having someone else see the BEST in you and know where your strength is. It’s really up from there and you instantly feel like you ar emaking a difference.
