Today we’d like to introduce you to Drea Bloom.
Hi Drea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I first got into modeling my junior year of high school when I enrolled in John Casablanca Modeling Agency. I remember always being told that I should model and it was also a dream of mine, so I went for it! As time went by, I strayed away from it and around 2018, I realized if I was going to do this it was now or never.
I started following people on Instagram who were already modeling and noticed they all had professional pictures on their pages. I quickly learned that I needed to make some changes and deleted any low-quality pictures that didn’t showcase my modeling skills.
I had done a few shoots here and there for beauty brands so I had a few pictures to start with. After that, I booked my first photoshoot with Carlos Stephenson of Still Going Design and took a portfolio-building course with TNZ agency, and I noticed a huge difference in the look of my page and followers. Soon after, I started getting booked for clothing shoots and things took off from there!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Yes, I’ve gone through many challenges. From not knowing where to start or how to get work/ booked. It took me a little over a year to get connected to the right people for anything to happen. There’s also a lot of people who don’t want to give you a lead because they feel no one gave them one. So I prayed and figured if this is for me, God would make a way. And he did!
I also dealt with feeling like I needed to be “thick” being in the Atlanta modeling scene. I felt like maybe things weren’t taking off because I was too skinny and I began a weight gain journey and gained 10 pounds which I regretted.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well so far, I’ve worked for hair companies, clothing boutiques a cosmetic brand and I’ve done a handful of music videos starting out. As far as what to do I have a YouTube channel where I give tips and advice about modeling and talk about my experience and show my lifestyle. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come, and the growth I see within myself also the opportunities that have come from my hard work In this short time.
I feel like what sets me apart is my personality and the direction I’m going in, also feel like my style is changing a lot as I get older and it’s setting me apart from the cliché Instagram model look.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve definitely taken risks with modeling. Not so much with my modeling career but financially. It’s definitely an investment you have to make in yourself to see results. As far as shoots, wardrobe and classes sometimes it might not pay off.
I’m all for taking risks when it comes to your dreams when you know you have what it takes to succeed, it’s definitely worth it. I say go for it!
