Conversations with Emo Nation-A 2000’s Pop Punk Tribute

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emo Nation-A 2000’s Pop Punk Tribute.

Hi Emo Nation- A 2000s Pop Punk Tribute, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Emo Nation is an Atlanta-based 2000’s pop punk tribute band started in late 2022. The group was created by core members Tayler Jaques, Michael Marcello, and Ryan Stevens of Flannel Nation- A 90s Rock Tribute. Inspired by the “When We Were Young” music festival lineup, the band quickly gained popularity in the Midtown area. Emo Nation has two female singers and two male singers who rotate through some of the most iconic scream-alongs of that genre. Recently the group has packed out venues like Smiths Olde Bar, Park Tavern, Dixie Tavern, and will soon take the stage with RCS Summer Concert Series. As a band, we pride ourselves with musicianship and professionalism. We want to recreate these songs exactly the way you heard them coming out of your beater car’s CD player driving home from high school. Fans have described the bands performance as “one of the best nights of their lives”.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We make sure our audience has an amazing show experience by meticulously practicing and having a blast on the stage. Many of the most famous 2000s pop punk anthems have backing tracks and multiple layers, making it difficult to reproduce organically. We don’t use backing tracks, so having a keyboard player really adds to our band dynamic, making us different from others. Another significant challenge we encounter involves being overlooked by venues unwilling to explore different genres of music. Some of these venues are managed by gatekeepers who restrict the diversity and creativity within the music scene. So far, we’ve been invited back to every venue we’ve performed at, and we’re hopeful to bring our entertainment to a wide array of new venues.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Since 2022, Emo Nation has been selling out Emo Nights all over Atlanta. Recently the group traveled out of the city for the first time to play at Barrelhouse South in Savannah. In 2023, EN played at Park Tavern (Piedmont Park) for over 400 people, and has continued to grow its fanbase ever since. Next shows will be August 16th at The Garden Club in Wild Heaven West End, and Sept 14 at Peachtree Corners Summer Concert Series with Blank 281. The band is known for its audience interaction, and crowd participation during the most epic pop punk sing-alongs such as Paramore’s “Misery Business”, or My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to The Black Parade”. “We are a group of friends that share the same love for this type of music. You can see it in our faces. The more fun the crowd is having, the harder we rock. That’s why when you do something you love, it doesn’t even feel like work”- Tayler Jaques (lead singer). When you go to an Emo Nation show, expect flying beach balls, epic dual guitar solos, heavy breakdowns, fog machines, and head banging. Everywhere you look is pure entertainment, and fans are guaranteed to have an unforgettable night out.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you want to be a well-established cover or tribute band, it takes time and work. Promoting on social media and getting to know your fans on a personal level are both critical for success. Always practice before you practice, and show up well prepared. Stage presence is also a key factor- if you just stand there playing your instrument, nobody will remember you. If you head bang so hard and actively engage the crowd, the audience will love it. If we knew how successful this project would have been 5+ years ago, we would have started working on this band earlier. If you have a good idea, you need to take the risk and just go for it. Everything will fall into place as it should.
