Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Henderson.
Eric, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started professionally acting two years ago, if we are including high school and plays it would certainly be longer. My passion for the arts stemmed from both my brother and my love of the extraordinary (superhero’s, fantasy, etc.) When my brother and I were kids, we used to go outside and pretend we were all in all of those amazing stories, and since that moment I was hooked. Flash forward 13 years or so I started doing plays, my first being a Shakespeare production… so as you could imagine, I had to sink or swim. Surprisingly even with the dialect, I found it to be quite an enjoyable challenge. I loved the feeling so much I then went on to act in other plays such as Oliver Twist and A Children’s Story. After high school, I was pumped and naively unaware of how hard the industry is to get into. I started finding local things to build a résumé all the while hunting for an agent. It wasn’t until a year after that process I found out every good actor NEEDS headshots, so I forked up the cash and got some pretty sweet shots! It was about two years of tug of war but I’m now in a better place as I have a multitude of projects on the horizon, a solid IMDB page, an agent, and ALOT more business knowledge.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t want to lie and say it hasn’t been hard, but I don’t want to be a sob story either. My mother became increasingly unhealthy undergoing multiple surgeries (two for her heart and one for the brain) as I started my venture, so I started to do some roles as a means to lift her spirits unfortunately two years in she never got to see me act passing away last Mother’s Day. Thankfully my father got to watch The Wild Man, my first feature in her place. That aside, I’ve had typical actor struggles, tons of no’s, car sleeping, etc. that since has passed (aside from the no’s I still get those.)
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an actor, so… I act. I mainly specialize in villain acting as it’s more fun you know cooler costumes, fun dialogue, all that. I’m most known for White Girl Apokalypse as it’s one of my first projects released, I love it, it’s so much fun. I’m most proud of an intense scene I pulled off for Midknight. What sets me apart from the others? Well, I could pull the young actor card and say things like the industry isn’t ready for me, or whatever pretentious paragraph I could concoct but honestly… I’m just me. There’s no clone of me as far as I know so I’m just me. That can be true for everyone there’s tons of talent out there, every actor I’ve met has it and I have no doubt they’ll make it as well. There’s a place in this world and industry for all of us simply based on the fact we are all one of a kind.
How do you think about luck?
It’s all luck. Getting a role is luck. I haven’t quite seen the bad end of the luck stick yet.
