Conversations with Ernie McRae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ernie McRae.

Hi Ernie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey with Unique Kulture began out of a deep passion for fashion, entrepreneurship, and a desire to connect with people through creative expression. Growing up, I was always drawn to emerging trends and the way style empowers confidence and individuality. After years spent learning e-commerce and digital marketing, I saw a unique opportunity to build a brand that offered more than just products—it would be a community.

Unique Kulture started as a small online boutique where I took on every role, from sourcing products to marketing and customer care. Early on, I adopted a hybrid model, combining the flexibility of dropshipping with the reliability of in-house inventory. This approach allowed me to quickly test new styles and respond to trends, while also guaranteeing fast shipping and quality control for key pieces that I stock myself.

Through long nights and lots of learning, I found that success depended on forging strong relationships—with customers, creators, and like-minded brand partners. Persistent social media engagement, eye-catching digital campaigns, and a commitment to quality helped the store gain traction and recognition.

Building my own inventory alongside dropshipping wasn’t always easy—it meant balancing risk, logistics, and cash flow. But it also made Unique Kulture more resilient and able to deliver a personal touch that customers value. Today, the store is recognized for statement accessories, trendsetting styles, and a vibrant online community.

The journey has been filled with both hurdles and triumphs, teaching me the importance of resilience and quickly adapting to change. Unique Kulture now stands as a growing fashion brand committed to empowering customers and partners, proving that with vision and determination, anyone can turn their passion into a purposeful business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building Unique Kulture has definitely not been a smooth road, and every obstacle along the way has shaped the business. One of the earliest challenges was finding the right mix of products to satisfy customer demand while maintaining a manageable inventory and adapting quickly to fashion trends. Balancing dropshipping with in-stock items meant constantly monitoring quality, supply chain reliability, and shipping times to avoid disappointing customers.

Another big hurdle was setting up digital marketing from scratch—learning how to manage ad budgets, create engaging content, and keep up with ever-changing algorithms. There were campaigns that didn’t perform as hoped and times when site traffic didn’t translate into sales, forcing me to rethink strategies and quickly test new ideas.

Customer service also had its tough moments, such as handling returns, managing expectations, and maintaining trust—even when things went wrong. Early on, I dealt with payment processing issues, lost packages, and setting up clear, fair policies for refunds and restocking. Each problem taught me to be proactive and transparent, always putting the customer’s experience at the center.

Building relationships with partners, affiliates, and creators has its own set of challenges. Communication mix-ups, technical glitches, and making sure everyone is rewarded fairly required constant attention and adaptation.

Despite these bumps, every challenge pushed me to learn new skills and refine my approach. The journey hasn’t been easy—but those hard moments built the foundation for Unique Kulture’s growth, resilience, and commitment to quality.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While I’m best known as the founder and creative force behind Unique Kulture, my professional career spans beyond fashion retail into the realms of SEO building and digital marketing. I specialize in creating optimized digital experiences that connect brands with their target audiences in meaningful ways. This combination allows me to craft not only stylish, on-trend products but also the strategies to ensure they reach and resonate with customers.

What sets me apart is this dual expertise—I understand both the creative side of fashion and the technical, data-driven aspects of online marketing. I’m proud of how I’ve leveraged SEO and content marketing to grow Unique Kulture’s organic reach, alongside paid campaigns to drive targeted traffic and conversions. This holistic approach helps my brand stay visible, relevant, and competitive in a crowded online marketplace.

I take great pride in building authentic digital communities, nurturing relationships with customers and creators, and constantly refining marketing tactics based on evolving trends and analytics. My work blends creativity, strategy, and technology to build a brand that is both stylish and smartly positioned for sustainable growth.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The fashion e-commerce industry is evolving rapidly, and I see the next 5–10 years bringing even more innovation and transformation. One major shift is the growing demand for personalization—customers want shopping experiences, recommendations, and products tailored specifically to their tastes and lifestyles. Advances in AI and data analytics will make it easier for brands to deliver highly personalized content, product suggestions, and targeted marketing campaigns, both online and across social channels.

Sustainability will continue to be a driving force, with customers increasingly seeking out brands that offer ethical sourcing, eco-friendly packaging, and transparent supply chains. I anticipate that fashion businesses who demonstrate real commitment to social and environmental responsibility will stand out and earn trust, especially among younger buyers.

The integration of digital and physical retail is another big trend. I expect to see more virtual try-ons, AR experiences, and seamless blending of social media with direct shopping features, allowing customers to move effortlessly from inspiration to purchase.

For digital marketing and SEO, competition will only intensify. Brands will need to invest even more in creative content, community-building, and staying ahead of search and social platform changes. Building authentic relationships and leveraging micro-influencers will be key to organic growth, as paid ad space becomes more crowded and expensive.

Overall, I see fashion e-commerce becoming smarter, more sustainable, and customer-centric. Brands that can innovate with technology while staying true to their values will thrive in this new landscape.
