Conversations with EZ Duzzit

Today we’d like to introduce you to EZ Duzzit.

Hi EZ, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into music definitely began as a fan of the legendary Michael Jackson. I was exposed to the rhythms and the notation early in life through my natural attraction to the music and how it all worked.

Later becoming an artist myself, I quickly learned that it was expensive to be an artist in regards to studio time, so I wanted to learn how to record myself to save money and I ended up getting really good with mix engineering and music production, especially after two years at Full Sail University when I went in 2011.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all! There were many frustrating moments and situations over time but it all definitely helped to foster a lot of good habits and character.

I’d say the biggest struggle was always marketing correctly, I found that like most things there is an art to marketing that I have still yet to master.

Other than that of course the time and years it took to develop a good ear for mixing and mastering and learning how to use certain types of tools and tricks of the trade was a hurdle but well worth it.

Currently a struggle is the amount of artists that like myself when I was younger that simply don’t have the funds to support their careers and it makes the studio life a little more difficult to maintain without taking on side gigs, which also landed me into DJing late last year. That and the fact that my friend and artist J. Chantel talked me into DJing a showcase we had going on that was themed like Showtime At The Apollo.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist with multiple skill sets the primary being producing, recording, mixing, and mastering music. I am also a lyricist and songwriter, known mostly for consciously driven music in regard to my personal music, though I do have a few club and pop songs.

I am set apart by my content first and foremost but also my abilities in a studio are extremely apparent and appreciated in most situations I find myself in. I often help artists bring out the best in their recordings before we even mix it because I know that the key to a great mix is a great recording.

What were you like growing up?
I was an imaginative nerd that loved music, martial arts, video games, and horror movies. I was raised in urban Denver, Colorado so I was influenced a bit by gang culture but my father was a prominent educator and social justice activist that taught me and my siblings a lot about history both domestic and worldwide so I was quite militant and very against things like “Police Brutality” very early in life.

I took interest in American History quite early on because I was finding that much of the history taught in schools wasn’t the full story, but that’s for another interview.
