Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrett Forge.
Hi Garrett, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
So that I don’t write a novel since my path has been long and had many detours, I will be as brief as I can. It started off through a connection from my church choir who recommended me to tryout for a musical theater show. After being cast in it and in over 20 shows later, I connected with a fellow actor who produced his first film. I auditioned for it and booked that role and a role in another feature film. Both were Comedies. After that I started doing Background work on a few major movie channel cable shows. However, I was bumped up from Background to speaking line role and ended up being in three scenes of a movie that is still out on Prime and TubiTV. It is called “Da Story B4 Da Glory”. On that set, a BG actor recommended me to submit for agent representation. I did submit a taped monologue and was signed with an agent a week later. In January I will have been signed with ,my agent for 9 years. Over the 9-10 year span, I have been in over 20 film projects, including many feature films, several series, some commercials, including one national commercial. I also learned voiceover from courses and workshops and online to create my own Voiceover Training course which is now one of 9 different services offered at my Audio-Video Production company “Forge Ahead A/V Studios” which was started over 5 years ago in March 2020. I have also signed with two Voiceover agents, one is Crown North Talent Agency for the state of California and the other is Lori Lins Ltd out of the Chicago/Milwaukee area.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road at all, but that is typical in this industry. There are probably exceptions with some of Hollywood’s elites and their children. I think the main challenge was in getting auditions or being booked for roles. The first thing that I learned in just starting out was that you have to earn respect in the industry such as not getting paid for some roles to just get the experience. After a few non-paid roles and getting some experience, the paid roles eventually started coming. This occurred from being more known within the small film circles and networking at various film events. The same goes for the music industry but it was a different type of path.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an Actor, Voiceover Actor, Singer, Songwriter, Producer (Music and Film/TV), and a Business Owner. I specialize in many of the Arts as in film/tv and music mostly. I am not really sure that there is any specific role that I am known for but I am more of a character actor but also a Singer/Songwriter. I did not mention earlier that I now the lead singer/lyricist for an upcoming Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band that has been in Songwriting and Jam Sessions to prepare for releasing our first album and single that we hope to release sometime next year. I am most proud that I have not given up on my dreams at this later stage in my life. There have been many times that I have questioned my dreams but figured that if I gave up now, all that I have done would just be a waste. I love the saying “Winners never quit and Quitters never win”. That is part of the reason I try to keep going. I also heard an interview of I think it was Nicole Kidman (sidebar: we share the same birthday) who said that we are all just one audition away to something great. I believe God put me on this earth for a greater purpose than just to work a 9-5 and then die. I want to be an inspiration while also creating art and helping provide those going through life’s downs to maybe learn something, or find an answer to a problem or feel better about themselves through the film/tv medium or through my music. The only thing I think sets me apart is that no one is me. I bring my life experiences to every role and to my songs and hope someone can relate to my character or music to help better themselves.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I think my favorite childhood memory had to been when I got to go to a vacation with my family like at the beach. I did also have a good number of regular good memories from playing a lot of sports growing up with two older brothers and neighbors. We played basketball, wiffle ball, football in the street, and pool and ping pong in our next door neighbor;;s basement.
