Conversations with Gustavo Adolfo Castillo Cruz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gustavo Adolfo Castillo Cruz.

Hi Gustavo Adolfo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been really curious and driven to make a positive impact in my community. I started by getting involved in local projects when I was younger, focusing on education and environmental initiatives. Over time, I realized that I wanted to expand that impact globally, which led me to collaborate with international organizations and participate in programs that focus on leadership, climate action, and social innovation. Along the way, I’ve had opportunities to work on projects that connect students and changemakers from different countries, and that’s really shaped how I approach problem-solving and leadership today. Every step has taught me the importance of resilience, collaboration, and dreaming bigger than what seems possible at first.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all—it’s definitely been a bumpy road at times. One of the biggest challenges has been dealing with limited resources, especially when trying to launch projects that have a real impact. There were also moments when I felt unsure if I could make a difference on a global scale, or when things didn’t go as planned despite putting in a lot of effort. On top of that, balancing school, personal growth, and these projects hasn’t always been easy. But I think those struggles taught me a lot about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying committed to your goals even when things get tough.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I focus on creating opportunities for young people to take meaningful action on social and environmental issues. Most of my work revolves around leadership, climate action, and connecting changemakers across communities and countries. I specialize in designing and leading projects that not only raise awareness but also create tangible impact—whether that’s through environmental initiatives, educational programs, or international collaborations.

I’m known for bringing people together, for being persistent and detail-oriented in making projects happen, and for thinking creatively about how to solve problems that often seem too big to tackle. One of the things I’m most proud of is being able to inspire and mobilize others, especially youth, to take action in ways they might not have thought possible. Seeing a team I helped build execute a project successfully, or hearing someone say that my work motivated them to make a difference, is incredibly rewarding.

What sets me apart is that I combine vision with hands-on action. I don’t just come up with ideas—I work to make them real, often finding ways to overcome resource limitations or other obstacles along the way. I think my ability to connect local actions to global impact, while empowering others to lead alongside me, is something that really defines my approach and makes my work unique.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d just say that for me it has never been about the projects themselves it is about the people and the energy that comes from working together I have learned that even small actions can spark something much bigger when you connect with the right people

I would also tell readers that struggles are part of the journey and feeling unsure or facing obstacles does not mean you are failing it is just part of figuring out how to make an impact Every experience good or bad has taught me something valuable and shaped the way I approach change

Above all I hope people realize that you do not need to wait for the perfect moment to start making a difference Even small steps taken with purpose can grow into something meaningful and sometimes that is how the biggest changes begin
