Today we’d like to introduce you to Ha$e.
Hi Ha$e, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For sure. I grew up in Frisco TX, which is part of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Both my parents are from Philadelphia so I grew up listening to Philly Soul a lot, but being in Texas I also fell in love with southern hip-hop early. I moved to Atlanta to go to school at Morehouse College where I graduated studying marketing. I’ve been making music since high school, I started out rapping on a PlayStation eye toy and used Audacity to record, real janky but from the start, I learned how to solve things on my own. At Morehouse I met a lot of people I work with to this day like Tron Sagas and DJ AhaDaAmazing. With Tron, we formed a collective called 93 Supreme and recently the whole team has been taking off.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started off there wasn’t even a SoundCloud. Nowadays it’s a lot more common knowledge on the basic sh*t you need to be an indie artist but we had to figure it out on our own. From that I started off mixing my own vocals, doing my own cover arts, all of that. So it all really turned me into a one man machine.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve always made music just for me and the homies to ride around to or play loud as f*ck in apartments. That really led to me having my own style from a huge combo of influences. On my upcoming album SEALAB RADIO, I really put it all out there as far as the versatility. No two songs sound the same but they all sound like Ha$e.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
One hundred percent into risks. Even coming to Atlanta, it would have been more comfortable for me to stay in Texas but something told me this is where I needed to be. And musically I take risks all the time. I’m into experimenting with my voice and pushing myself outside my comfort zone. I feel like you can’t grow if you’re too comfortable.
