Conversations with Herbert Gilliam

Today we’d like to introduce you to Herbert Gilliam.

Hi Herbert, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well for me it was birthed through my trauma and how I had to face it. In doing so, a great cataclysm happened; face it and evolve or go back into the loop. I chose to face it and allow it to give me the freedom to become who I was supposed to be. When going back to visit that little boy at a kitchen table who was scared and didn’t have a protector. I had the opportunity to go back and tell him “we’re ok” and “I got you”. Little did I know that it became the spark to finally set myself free and just become a vessel and release that fear, anger, disappointment. So, I wanted to be the best version of myself. Now I’m taking all the experience and wisdom that it yielded and wanting to take people along that journey in hopes something in me will help the next one spark to just BECOME!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, it’s not been all smooth! lol But since I’ve grown in wisdom and look back on those moments, I see a lot of those experiences were of my design!! That’s a truth I didn’t want to face in this moment…! I finally looked up and realized I was all by myself and I wasn’t good. I doing a lot of pretending but I was crumbling on the inside; I was all the way afraid. I had slowed down so much from not dealing with the problems that when I looked up, I found myself alone to deal with the threat; ME! So, after dealing with some things I started to feel something come back to life and I thought why not do something that I can bring people along with. My intentions are to allow my “learning opportunities” to be of service for someone that just couldn’t get it in the beginning

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently work in healthcare on the administration side. Although, I just entered into that career field only within the last five years, I was in hospitality for over twenty years. Being of service and helping others was some thing that always came natural to me. Being able to make someone’ day, honoring a request that had been entrusted to me, to developing team members, leading developments that enhanced the experience for the guests; and now patients. I realized that I experienced a lot trial and error moments and what I carry is; if I can help someone to avoid something through taking their journey, I’d love to be that mirror for them! I hope it will do the job it is intended for. I see that as a tool for spiritual healing! Helping people to become the best versions of themselves, just like I did.

How do you think about happiness?
I like to listen to good old school R&B. Like Jodeci, Whitney, Luther Vandross, Donny Hathaway, and just beautiful singers that hit my soul in space that it just reminds me of home in my heart! I love to cook and eat. I also love the conversations that create intimate moments from philosophy, stocks, spirituality (its the biggest), being open (but with boundaries lol). I really love being of service to others! My friends would tell you that I’m always the one volunteering to cook something when we’re on a trip. I see that as showing just how much I love you by using my gift through an act of service.
