Conversations with Herbert Obeng

Today we’d like to introduce you to Herbert Obeng

Herbert, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey is a testament to resilience, faith, and the pursuit of one’s passions. Born and raised in Obuasi, Ghana, I was deeply influenced by the rich cultural heritage of the Fante tribe. My educational path led me through esteemed institutions such as St. Augustine’s School and Opoku Ware School in Ghana. Seeking broader horizons, I moved to the United States in 2018 to further my studies. I began my academic journey at Montgomery College before transferring to the University of Maryland, College Park, where I pursued a degree in communications.

Balancing academics with multiple roles, I worked at establishments like Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s, CVS, Home Goods, Home Depot, Walgreens, Five Below, Domino’s Pizza, Giant, and Weis Market. These experiences honed my time management skills and deepened my understanding of diverse work environments. During this period, I embraced my calling as a Master of Ceremonies, becoming known as MC Herb. This role allowed me to connect with audiences, infusing events with energy and charisma.

In 2017, before completing high school, I founded the Flute Charity Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to giving back to the community and supporting those in need. This initiative reflects the values instilled in me during my upbringing and my commitment to making a positive impact.

In November 2020, driven by a passion to share my Ghanaian heritage, I founded Herbin’s Fashion. This brand embodies cultural fusion, blending traditional Ghanaian elements with contemporary designs. Our product range includes shirts, pants, bomber jackets, dress jackets, hoodies, shorts, kaftans, and ladies’ dresses. We ship worldwide, ensuring that our designs reach customers across the globe.

Beyond fashion, I established Herbie’s Hub, a dynamic content creation business dedicated to capturing life’s most cherished moments. Specializing in events like weddings and engagements, we combine creativity and professionalism to craft compelling visual narratives. Our services are available for bookings at any time, ensuring flexibility for our clients.

My entrepreneurial ventures extend to brand collaborations, where I’ve served as an ambassador for companies such as SHEIN, Pay Angel, and Tap Tap Send. Additionally, I’ve partnered with Amazon and Walmart as an influencer, leveraging these platforms to promote products that resonate with my audience.

I also founded Herbin’s Art, a graphic design company that allows me to express my creativity through visual arts. This venture enables me to provide unique design solutions to clients, further expanding my creative portfolio.

Looking ahead, I am channeling my passion for sports journalism by rebranding my YouTube channel to focus on soccer coverage. This endeavor aligns with my long-term aspiration to contribute meaningfully to the sports media landscape.

At the core of my journey is an unwavering faith in God. I believe that the gifts and opportunities I’ve been blessed with are divinely ordained, guiding me to make a difference and impact lives positively. As Proverbs 18:16 states, “A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.” This scripture resonates deeply with me, reminding me that our talents are avenues through which we can serve and inspire others.

I also hold the conviction that “whatever you set your mind to in life, you can do.” This mindset has been a driving force behind my endeavors, encouraging me to pursue my passions relentlessly and overcome challenges with determination.

Each chapter of my story reflects a commitment to embracing opportunities, celebrating cultural heritage, and striving for excellence across various domains. Through faith, perseverance, and a dedication to uplifting others, I continue to navigate this journey, ever grateful for the path laid before me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Throughout my journey, I’ve encountered several challenges that have shaped my personal and professional growth. Transitioning from Ghana to the United States in 2018, I faced cultural differences and homesickness, adjusting to new customs and a fast-paced environment. Establishing the Flute Charity Foundation in Ghana presented legal complexities, requiring adherence to specific regulations and understanding the registration process. Balancing multiple entrepreneurial ventures—Herbin’s Fashion, Herbie’s Hub, and Herbin’s Art—while pursuing my studies demanded exceptional time management and organizational skills. Additionally, navigating brand collaborations and influencer partnerships required careful alignment with my values and audience. Transitioning to sports journalism, particularly soccer coverage, involved building credibility in a competitive field. Throughout these endeavors, maintaining unwavering faith in God has been my guiding force, helping me overcome obstacles and strive for excellence in all my pursuits.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
