Conversations with Hilary Tomasello

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilary Tomasello.

Hi Hilary, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I was in college I helped start a Landscaping business and I was in charge of putting together systems, as well as teaching myself how to do payroll and all accounting in Quicken. The company merged with another company 4 years later. I then began working for a Top Fuel Drag Racing team. This employer gave me many opportunities to learn more in all areas of office management, travel, hospitality, and human resources. I wore many hats and was the right hand to the owner/driver. I had always thought I enjoyed working with numbers more than working with people. Once I was in the hospitality tent with 1000 + guests I learned that I actually enjoyed and excelled in the people arena. So many personalities in one area, conversing with each other no matter what their background was or where they came from. I was with this employer for 16 years. I always thought about owning my own business again one day with all of the knowledge I have gained throughout the years. It was a risk but a risk I decided to take in February of 2023 with prayer and guidance from mentors. I decided to take the knowledge I had received from working within small businesses and wearing multiple hats and put it to use by opening my own small business consulting firm that focuses on human resources and bookkeeping.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I truly believe you don’t reach your true calling in life without hitting snags and bumps along the way. The bumps are what made me a better person. Even thought I believe I have reached my calling in life I continue to have bumps and I know I will continue to have bumps but that is how we continue to learn and grow. The race team I worked for had layoffs throughout my tenure, but I held on. I had to terminate employment with some of the team members that I looked up to. Those instances taught me humility. They taught me how to have empathy. Working in a sports industry you deal with multiple personalities, but you learn everyone is human and has their good days and bad. We were an industry that was effected by Covid. We learned how to manage on a day to day basis.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have 24 years of expertise with working within small businesses. I have helped small companies build a platform so not only would the company be successful but also their employees. I have a passion for the people within an organization. I enjoy helping others go above and beyond what they though was possible. I understand different positions within an organization and how to put the right people in the right seat. I specialize in small business consultation, human resources services, bookkeeping services, event management, and public speaking. I have spoken at high schools about future careers and building healthy relationships.

What are your plans for the future?
My plan for the future is to continue to learn and grow everyday. To help companies and their employees create, maintain, and excel. Everyday I look forward to what the day might bring. I do hope to continue to grow my business and make it a known name in the small business industry. I hope to get to the point to where I can hire my own employees to help them learn more about themselves, teach them, train them, and be the mentor to them as my mentors did for me.
