Conversations with Jamie Bassaline

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Bassaline

Hi Jamie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from New Jersey, but I started my food journey when I was living in New York City. Growing up, I wasn’t particularly adventurous when it came to food. But in college, I started to branch out and realized how fun and exciting it can be to try new things. That sparked a real passion for food.

Living in New York gave me the perfect backdrop to dive deeper into the culinary world. With so many diverse restaurants and cuisines right at my fingertips, it really opened my eyes to how much there is to discover through food. Now, I’m based in Atlanta, and I absolutely love exploring the city’s food scene, especially venturing into the different neighborhoods and discovering hidden gems both within and beyond the perimeter.

Food is not just about eating—it’s about the adventure, the culture, and the stories that come with every bite. That’s what continues to drive me and keeps me excited about where my food journey will take me next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life can be unpredictable, and my foodstagram has always been more of a side project or hobby. I originally started it as a way to share my food journey with just friends and family, never imagining it would grow into something much bigger. Over time it evolved in ways I couldn’t have anticipated. Brands and companies started reaching out to me to try their products, share my thoughts, and promote their food or food related products.

It’s honestly an honor to be seen as someone that companies in the food industry trust to experience and review their products.

However, life has gotten in the way of growing my foodstagram and I’ve taken multiple breaks over the past five years. However, in the last few months, I’m proud to say I’ve returned with a renewed passion, committed to bringing fresh content to my followers and fellow foodies.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in sharing my food journey through my foodstagram, where I document my experiences with different cuisines, restaurants, and food products. While I started it as a way to connect with friends and family, it has grown into something much bigger, connecting me with brands and companies that trust me to try and review their products, eventually promoting them almost like a brand ambassador. I’m known for offering honest reviews. It’s about more than just what’s on the plate. I aim to highlight the story and culture behind the foods I try.

What I’m most proud of is how my foodstagram has evolved. In the beginning, it was just a fun hobby, but now it’s become a space where I can share my love for food with a wider audience and collaborate with brands that I genuinely believe in. I’m proud of how it’s grown organically and how I’ve been able to stay true to my love of food, despite life’s ups and downs.

I have always promised myself that I would never post about a food, restaurant or product if I did not like it. What sets me apart from others is my authenticity. I’ve always focused on real, unfiltered experiences, whether it’s a local gem or a big-name brand. I don’t just share what’s popular; I share what resonates with me, which I think helps create a more personal connection with my followers. I’m also passionate about exploring the hidden culinary gems of different areas, whether inside or outside the city, which gives my followers a more diverse food experience. And, even though I am gluten free I still post about all the different types of foods that I have experienced with others who are not gluten free.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When it comes to finding a mentor or networking, I’ve found that building genuine connections is key. In the food influencer community, we’re all in it together, and there’s a lot of support and collaboration. One of the things I’ve loved most about being part of this space is how we all lift each other up. Whether it’s sharing tips, recommending new restaurants, or collaborating on projects, the community really values mutual support.

For me, one of the best ways to network has been to engage with other creators and brands—not just by liking their posts, but by genuinely engaging with their content. I follow tons of other food accounts, restaurants, and chefs, and I learn so much from the creative ideas they share. By building relationships with others in the food space, I get inspiration, and I also have the chance to share my own thoughts and experiences. It’s a two-way street that helps everyone grow.

As for finding a mentor, I’d say look for people whose work resonates with you and don’t be afraid to reach out. Many people in the community are open to sharing advice or guidance, especially when they see you’re passionate about what you do. I’ve personally had some great conversations with fellow influencers, and it’s helped me navigate both the challenges and the opportunities in this space.
