Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarratt Butler
Hi Jarratt, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I think I’ve wanted to do a podcast for years…I mean YEARS! To the point that I started seeing Facebook memories of me saying…”Podcast coming soon. #SorryForTheWait” going back like 4 years. It was embarrassing.
Sure I had been featured on podcasts and been a part of podcast ensembles but I was generally scared to do it on my own.
The pandemic changed that for me. I got the realization that life is short and I can’t keep waiting for the right opportunity at the right time when I’m in the right mindset.
I had to go for it!!!
So I launched It’s About DAMN Time Podcast on October 9th 2020 (My Mom’s Birthday)
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life has smooth roads? Like they aren’t all full of potholes? Send your pin so I can see these roads. Lol
No, it hasn’t been smooth. When you start a podcast on your own, you don’t realize how much work it takes to consistently put it out.
I didn’t know much about editing and production. I didn’t know anything about graphics as far as cover art. Not a lot of podcast friends to bounce ideas off of. There was a lot a trial and error. I mean seriously…my first piece of cover art and the first season of my podcast…
It. Was. Awful. Lol
Plus I needed to find my footing on what was my “why”. It was one thing to have a voice but it was another thing to figure out what I wanted to say. I don’t feel like I hit my stride until like episode 100.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
It’s About DAMN Time is a podcast about my self discovery. It’s like an open journal with guest features.
The idea for it kinda came from my own struggles in life. I was struggling with so much. Severe depression. Anxiety. Imposter Syndrome. Diabetes.
I knew I wanted to get better…be better. I knew that I was not living my life to the fullest. So I decided to talk about it. The more I did, the more other people told me how they related. They enjoyed my honesty and openness. It encouraged others to address their issues and face their fears.
I knew I had something there. Sure there are a lot of self-help podcast with gurus and thought leaders, but how many podcast are there with a person who is struggling with the same stuff you are struggling with. Dealing with the same issues. It gives you a sense that you are not alone when you hear my podcast. It’s not just you.
Pushes you to keep fighting and keep attempting to build a better you.
What are your plans for the future?
I just wrapped up a series for June to highlight Men’s Health Month. I focused my episodes on Black Men and some of the struggles we face physically, mentally, and emotionally.
I really enjoyed doing that so I will have more monthly series that highlight different aspects of life. Next up…Sex Health.
I have also gotten into podcast production and consulting. In 4 short years, I have created or co-created 6 podcasts and have done production/consultation work for 11 podcasts.
I love helping creators tell their stories. I’m always excited to help extract an idea that pops into one’s head and help them build a platform from scratch to do amazing things.
