Hi Jenée, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a wife, mother, entrepreneur, and storyteller. I love expressing my creativity through fashion and design. For as long as I can remember, I have had an eye for fashion and loved creating unique looks. From the time I was in a stroller, my mom and I would venture out to malls, outlets, and stores to shop and check out the latest fashion. I attribute my love of shopping and fashion to her. One particular Saturday, we were visiting a boutique, and my mom noticed some bracelets that she liked. I was not a fan of the designs, and with some convincing, my mom decided against purchasing them. At that moment, I had the idea to try and create some jewelry for her since Mother’s Day was approaching. I had no formal jewelry-making experience but had some experience through childhood crafts. Despite having no formal training, I was confident that I could make something beautiful for her. When Mother’s Day arrived, I created not only bracelets but earrings and a necklace, too! My mom loved her gifts, and I was excited about my newfound talent. I kept creating pieces and began wearing them. Friends and family members were complimenting my work and wanted to buy pieces of their own. This gave me the idea to turn this new hobby into a business.
I knew that I wanted my business to carry deeper purpose than just making beautiful jewelry. I wanted my work to impact the lives of those that I would meet along the journey. Having gone through a recent tragedy of losing my daughter Joy at 19 weeks of pregnancy, I wanted to use my business as an outlet to share how I was able to turn that pain into something beautiful. I love encouraging others and sharing hope. Out of that desire, Morning Dew Style was birthed! The morning dew represents to me the beauty found in a new day. It is fresh and provides moisture at the start of a new day. I want my customers to know that no matter how hard a situation is, as a new day begins, it is a reminder that there is always hope. There is a refreshing change that occurs with each new sunrise. Morning Dew Style honors the life of my daughter Joy and is a platform to promote hope and joy.
Having a clear mission gave me the courage to add more offerings to my brand and to infuse joy through other products and services. On my website I offer affirmations to those needing some encouraging words to rehearse and meditate on. I also expanded my product line to include hand-poured soy candles, resin coasters, and other accessories. I believe joy should be felt by what you adorn your body with as well as what you bring into your home.
Home decorating was always a passion for me. I grew up watching HGTV and admiring the raw talent of my mom, her sister (my aunt), and her mother (my grandmother) for making their homes beautiful. I was often redesigning areas in my home as well as assisting friends and family with transforming their spaces. As more interior design requests came my way, I decided to add interior design services to my brand. I made a formal announcement of my services to my customers and booked more interior design projects. I love expressing creativity through the work of my hands and seeing a space transformed into something completely new!
Today I am so grateful to bring joy into the homes I have the pleasure of transforming through interior design, candles, and housewares as well as adding confidence to my customers style through handcrafted statement jewelry and accessories.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being in business for yourself requires lots of flexibility and the ability to take risks. Every day on this journey has not been easy or smooth. I’ve had to overcome moments of self-doubt and rejection from others. I’ve had to go on a journey to discover who my customer is and develop strategies to reach them. Despite the challenges that I’ve faced, there have been more days of joy and fulfillment when I’ve been able to touch a life through what I’ve created or through sharing my story.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a designer, I love blending elements like colors, materials, textures, and tones both with jewelry and interiors. My design style for jewelry is unique and head-turning. I think jewelry should make a statement and add just the right pop to one’s wardrobe. I work mostly with natural gemstones, metals, resin, bone, and leather. Each piece that I create is one-of-a-kind, so my customers receive items that they will not find anywhere else. Man or woman, there is something for everyone!
As an interior designer, I love to incorporate functionality while still making a space beautiful. My areas of service include Remodeling, Styling & Staging, and Design Consultation. I take the time to listen to my client’s wishes and develop a design that will best suit their needs and budget.
I am most proud when my customers and clients experience joy through what I have created for them. Through each area of design, it is my mission to provide excellent service as well as a great product.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
One of my favorite books is “The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results” by Gary Keller. This book encouraged me to understand the importance of prioritizing what is most important to achieve productivity. I have also found inspiration through a podcast that I created entitled “Parables and Purpose.” This podcast walks through various topics from a biblical lense and helps to uncover how we are to approach them. As I’m preparing for each episode and listening to the stories of my guests, I am encouraged and inspired to live out my purpose! It’s definitely worth checking out, it is packed with so much wisdom and encouragement week to week.
