Conversations with Jessica Blakk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Blakk.

Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started during the pandemic, when I was living in Montreal, Canada. The world came to a complete stop. I had just lost my corporate job as a contact center director, and at the same time, people around the world were losing their lives to COVID-19. That moment shook me. Y.O.L.O “You only live once” stopped being a catch phrase and became a reality for me.

I always dreamed of being an actress and having my own show, so I decided to bet on myself. I enrolled in two acting programs simultaneously—training virtually with TSAW (Tasha Smith Actors Workshop) and in person at the House of Actors in Canada—completely immersing myself in the craft. During that time, I also created my first podcast, BarbHERshop Talk, a safe space for raw, honest conversations around mental health, love, sports, and everything in between with men from different walks of life.

Once I accepted that this was my true calling, there was no going back. Around that same time, I was also newly divorced. I was closing one chapter of my life and I knew I needed a fresh start—something new, something that felt like mine. I finally had the clarity and courage to ask myself what I truly wanted. The answer was simple: I wanted to live fully, create boldly, and stop waiting. I made the decision to move to Atlanta to fully pursue my dreams. I love Montreal, but I didn’t see enough people who looked like me reflected on screen, and I wanted to be surrounded by representation, creativity, and possibility. Atlanta felt aligned with who I was becoming.

There was no plan B, just a plan A. So, I didn’t ease into the move—I jumped. I didn’t rent an apartment; I bought a house. By doing so, I didn’t allow myself to create an opportunity to move back because of nostalgia or fear. My mind was set and there was no going back. I packed up my life, drove 24 hours to Atlanta with $400 in my pocket, and a whole lot of faith. It was uncomfortable, uncertain, and terrifying at times—but it was also freeing. Everything that’s happened since has been built on courage, consistency, and choosing myself.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life be lifing and challenges are part of the journey. For the most part, I’ve had a smooth ride. But moving to ATL, being a single mom, acting and producing a podcast, while wearing several hats and fully financing EVERYTHING yourself can be a little stressful. As far as the first season of my show Pillow talk the main challenge was to get public figures to agree to come on show as I was new to the city with no local credibility. But I kept on pushing and believing in myself and my show. I was able to get amazing guests for the first season such as actor and comedian Rod Minger, Life and Relationship Coach Ken Canion, Actor Terry Allen from the hit series BMF and Content Creator Adam Ali just to name a few.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an actress, podcast and event host, who loves telling real stories and creating genuine connections. I’m the creator and host of Pillow Talk with Jess, where I sit down with public figures, creatives, and change-makers to have honest, feel-good (and sometimes deep) conversations about life, growth, and the journeys people don’t always see. I’m known for making people feel comfortable enough to be real—and for asking the questions people actually want to answer.

On the acting side, I’m currently in the series hit series Peaches, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime and other platforms, with Tubi coming soon. I also appear in Episode 1 of Decisions Are Never Black and White, now available on Prime, Tubi, Apple TV, and all major streaming platforms. I’m especially excited about my upcoming lead role in Denied But Dangerous, which is in pre-production now and set to release at the top of 2026, along with several other film and TV projects on the way.

What I’m most proud of is building my career and platforms authentically—without waiting for permission. What sets me apart is that I’m intentional, curious, and real. Whether I’m acting or hosting, my goal is always the same: to create moments that feel honest and impactful.

Any big plans?
Looking ahead, I’m really excited about filming a new season of Pillow Talk with Jess with two new co-hosts. The show is evolving in a big way, and I’ll be releasing episodes weekly, which feels like an exciting next chapter. I’m focused on growing the platform, expanding the conversations, and continuing to connect with people in a more impactful way.

Beyond that, I’m staying committed to my craft—taking classes, studying, reading, and networking—because growth never stops. I’m also trusting the journey and looking forward to what God has in store for me in 2026 and beyond. My goal is to continue building toward becoming a household name as an actress and podcast host who makes people feel something real, raw, and unforgettable—both on and off the screen.
