Conversations with Jina Moreno

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jina Moreno.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I actually grew up around photography. My family shot weddings, so cameras were always around, but I didn’t pick one up seriously until my daughter was born in 2012. I was handed down a Canon 20D DLSR and a 50mm 1.4, started taking photos of her, and realized how much I loved capturing those real, in-between moments.

At the time I was already working full-time in marketing, so I used those skills to build a small side business. I focused on keeping things simple and genuine, and before long I was ranking on page one of Google. From there the business grew naturally. Clients shared my work with friends and family, and that word-of-mouth support is what really built everything for me. I’m grateful for every family who lets me document a piece of their story.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve actually been really fortunate — it’s been a smooth road overall. Having a marketing background, especially in SEO, gave me a big head start in getting my business found online. From there, I’ve had incredible clients who consistently shared my name with others. That combination made the growth feel natural and steady, without the typical hurdles many small businesses face.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a creative at heart, so photography has always been the perfect outlet for me. I’m also an extrovert, which means I genuinely enjoy meeting new people and connecting with families from all different backgrounds. I specialize in family photography — maternity, newborn, and family sessions — with the occasional engagement session mixed in.

What sets my work apart is its simplicity and honesty. I’m a natural-light photographer, so I don’t use studio setups or heavy artificial lighting. I edit with a clean, true-to-life style that keeps colors crisp and natural. During sessions, I guide my clients the entire time so they feel comfortable, relaxed, and confident. My goal is always to feel like an extension of the family so the experience feels easy, not stressful — especially since getting photos done isn’t usually everyone’s favorite activity. I’m proud that clients often tell me the session felt fun and effortless, and that the images feel like “them.”

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next decade, I think we’ll keep seeing the influence of AI in the photography world, specifically in editing workflows. Tools are getting smarter and faster, which helps photographers spend more time shooting and less time behind the computer. I also see the industry continuing its shift toward fully digital delivery. Years ago, clients had to choose a handful of prints with no access to the full gallery. Today, people expect high-resolution digital files and the flexibility to print, share, and save them however they want. I think that trend will only continue as families prioritize convenience and control over their images.

Pricing:

  • $625 all inclusive sessions with at least 50 digital image files delivered in both color and b/w
