Today we’d like to introduce you to Joncarlo Cortese.
Hi Joncarlo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Raised in Manchester CT, I began making music at nine years old and through many trials and tribulations have made it a career. With the help of being fueled by my coinciding cannabis (Goonie Genetics) brand, I have utilized skill sets from all walks of life and implemented them into a strategy for success.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My biggest struggles were adjusting from the streets and the dark market into the world of legitimate business. This came with losing everything a few times over, time in prison and feelings of remorse toward my passions. I didn’t always believe in myself or in the good in the world. Luckily I snapped back to reality just in time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been making music for about 15 years and professionally as an artist for a little over a year now. I have a hiphop sound that favors old-school rap with a touch of modern instrumentation and modern rock. I’m most proud of the fact that people have come out to see me perform this year. I took a hiatus from performing for over five years and the fact I was able to sell close to 1000 tickets between all my shows this year told me this can become reality.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is probably when I did my first talent show in 9th grade. I had been laughed at in the past for trying to rap and bullied a little bit over my interests. To do a small performance for people close to me and see such a positive response motivated me to take it to the next level and do my own solo show at 16.
