Conversations with Jovan Jefferson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jovan Jefferson. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Born in South Carolina, raised in Columbus, Georgia, Jovan Jefferson known as Lac Grizzly has been into music since an adolescent. He started out as a rapper who later turned into a producer. Once he learned how to make beats, he fell in love with it. Later after producing for up-and-coming independent artists and a few major artists, he got into videography for a brief moment. While trying to maintain his music production and videography, he had to make a choice on which one to focus on because both were very time-consuming. After deciding to maintain his original passion which is music, he decided to get into engineering as well. While recording, writing, producing, and mixing, he also wants to help independent artist reach their goals. Currently, he is the Owner/Operator of CaddyVision Productions and is striving to create a platform that will leave an everlasting legacy. Being inspired by producers like Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Kanye, Apollo Brown, Rza, & more, his sound is ever-evolving and distinct. His uncle/multi award-winning diamond producer Gerald “Geo” Hall of Down The Hall Productions helped mold his music into the signature sound it has today.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has its smooth moments but nah, it’s been rough. I think the hardest thing was finding balance. Between PTSD, depression, childhood trauma, and a failing marriage, it was hard to maintain sanity while chasing my dreams.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a producer/engineer who so happens to rap as well. I make beats, I record, I mix, I write, I arrange, and I’m a voice actor.

What I’m most proud of right now is overcoming my fear of failure. I always tried to make everything perfect and if it didn’t come out the way I wanted or received the response I was looking for, then I’d scrap an entire project. Now I have two singles out on all major streaming platforms.

I think what sets me apart from others is that I don’t like to follow trends. I have my own versatile sound that I believe will change the game one day. All glory to God.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I definitely learned some lessons during the pandemic. After being isolated, almost dying several times due to sickness and suicide attempts, I’ve learned that God has me on this planet for a reason.

I’ve done more to find out who I am and what I want as a person. I found out where I stand with people, what I’m capable of, and who’s there for me no matter what.
